Why Bulgaria??????

Excuse me for sounding negative but......

I went skiing to Pamporovo this year, mid January. It was my first time in Bulgaria and I had been told about how cheap it was and how good the skiing was. However, has anybody who goes to Bulgaria been skiing anywhere else?

Yes, it was cheap, but you get what you pay for. I am not an expert, but can handle a red run quite easily. What really did get me down was having to do the same green route down to the bottom, trying to get past all ...

Yes, it was cheap, but you get what you pay for. I am not an expert, but can handle a red run quite easily. What really did get me down was having to do the same green route down to the bottom, trying to get past all the ski schools on a very narrow run.

If I am paying to go skiing, then I want to ski. I would much rather pay slightly more and go to a resort that has endless runs and much better skiing conditions, as well as much better food and apres-ski.

I have two children and I found the ski-school very unprofessional and Balkan Holidays were awful. I have to say that if I had to choose, I would much rather pay that bit extra and go somewhere where I know my children will be taught well, and that I will have a choice of slopes to go down.

Have many people that go to Bulgaria actually been anywhere else?????

re: Why Bulgaria??????

evening all, ive only been to borovets but
in my opinion bulgaria is a great place to go with a bunch of mates for a bit of a mad week, if the snow is good then its probably as good as anywhere else and ive boarded all over europe. my mate had a private instructor for a day and a half an i was amazed how he came on as a beginner.. he was hitting reds at speed and with confidence. not sure what the schools are like but i did meet plenty of people who only attended first couple of days then ...

hey glam...wheres the cider?? ive got a chicken here going cold Wink

i admit it's the only place I've been too but it's not just the slopes and skiing it's the friends you make and see year after year, you may not make arrangements to meet up but when you get there th next year you see people from the previous year, I have had differnet instructors and ones I 've had previous years always remember you even my first one 5 years ago, when you think of the amount of pupils they must have over a season/years and the fact they remeber your name all go into making ...

re: Why Bulgaria??????

We only started skiing last year and have been to Pamps two years running now. Because of my job I'm resticted to schol hols, and the difference in cost between Bulgaria and anywhere else at that time is huge. I have to say that this year wasn't as good as last - mainly because of the snow conditions, but also the prices had been hiked and our instructor was poor compared to the one we had last year. However, still had a great time and looking forward to going again next year.

re: Why Bulgaria??????

I have been skiing in Val D'Isere, another French resort, Borovets and Bansko. Val D'Isere was fantastic skiing but the Bulgarian resorts were much better than the other French resort I went to (I cannot remember its name it was so unmemorable). But the other point is that when I went to France I was in hostel type accomodation sharing a room with several other people and had half the instructor time. In Bulgaria I get a room to myself and four hours instruction a day instead of two. I ...

re: Why Bulgaria??????

Having been all round the world skiing and now with two young children Bulgaria offers great value for money, yes the Apres Ski in other resorts is better, yes the skiing in canada is wonderful, but you get what you pay for.

a week in Bansko with two kids all in skis instruction food etc just less than 2K. If that was France Austria or the states it would have at least been 3K or more. Dont have a go at Bulgaria it is an upand comming country trying its best, give it five to six years and ...

re: Why Bulgaria??????

Well.........

15 years in Bulgaria - but also skied France, Austria, Andorra, America and Switzerland and whilst I totally agree that the skiing has not been great this year (like most of Europe) it's the atmosphere and the friendship that keeps me going back year after year and I would never stop going there as long as I can strap a pair of skis to my legs.

Much prefered it 10 years ago when it was basic beyond belief, and to listen to people moaning about the food etc. these days ...

Best skiing I've ever experienced? America without a doubt. But would I swap that for the fun I get going to Bulgaria --- not on your nelley Wink

re: Why Bulgaria??????

I'll add my voice to the above, I've been snowboarding in America, Europe, and even Australia but always return to Bulgaria. This year was my seventh visit ... 1 each for pamps and Bansko, the rest Boro, and I go purely and simply because I can have two holidays (a week in January, a week in March) for the price of a couple of lift passes in Western Europe. I only went once this year as the snow was dreadful, but last year and the year before I had some fantastic days with deep deep powder.
