i can remember last march it snowed for nearly 2 days in all 3 resorts.Must have been 50 cms of snow.we were in boro at the time,we heard reports of roads closed in bansko.Have faith in the snow gods POWDER POWDER
There are two different opinios about the reason, according to my bulgarian travel agent:
1. There is not enough snow (which is BS. there is more snow on top than on the lower slopes which are open)/
2. There are not enough skiers i.e. not enough skipass sold (which i don't give a damn. i bought a full price ski pass, i should get a full open ski area).
Any Travel Agency that is telling you that not enough lift passes have been sold to open the slopes are downright liars. Slopes being opened in Bulgaria never have and never will be down to the volume of passes sold. Provided there is sufficent snow to allow safe skiing the slopes and lifts will be open.
But there is enough snow on top. 3 different web sites (including bansko's official site) report 65 cm of snow on the top slopes, and also you can see on the web cams that there is more snow on top than on the lower slopes, and that the conditions are much better up there.
so that can't be the real reason for keeping them closed, can it ?
Webcams can be misleading, and they do not show the full run. For a peste to be open it needs to be safe from the top to the very bottom. Maybe that's the reason?
