Hi people! I´m a newbie - been boarding once, I´m pretty useless but hey we all have our cross to bear... I have no idea where to go - can you guys tell me why Borovets would be a better place to go to than say, Chamonix or other popular French places? I look forward to your feedback - good bad or ugly!! Thanks for your help.
If you can put up with the joke price of a pint in France then you shoulden't pick BG over France, just look at the size of area.
I still belive La plague in France was one of the best resorts iv'e been to, espe if the link to las Arcs is open.
sorry about the spellings.
Depends what you're after - Is size of the area a key factor for a beginner? Wasn't for me, for the first two years I didn’t board more than 30km so why would you need miles after miles of pistes.
I've been to Chamonix and if you've only boarded the once you probably wouldn't get the best from the resort and pay mad prices for food and drink. Cham is great for off piste but I guess you're a bit off that level yet? I also found the 90 minute queues in March a bit tiresome. Personally I ...

Personally I would have thought BG would be better as there's more than enough pistes for boarders of that level and prices are much less. Although the snow record is better in France.
If you're going in school holidays, then a week's skiing in France costs around double what you'd pay for the same in Bulgaria.
We were in France over New Year and the skiing conditions were fantastic. We're off back to Pamps next Saturday and know that the snow there cannot compare, but we can't run to two expensive ski breaks in one season.
If money was no consideration at all, I'd choose France every time, but Bulgaria is a great budget choice.

Go to Borro, La Plang is snobby, has crap accomodation and is expensive. Chamonix is good in summer for biking.
Bulgaria has the best hospitality, best accomodation, and theres loads of snow there now, plenty of ski-ing for a beginner, i'm on way home now. Bulgaria Ski transfer was excellent.

French negatives:
1) Expense at all levels, huge in some cases

3) White outs/wind, cold, very cold
4) Accomadation can be small and of low standard
5) No atmosphere, souless
6) Ignorant attitude from staff/instructors/barmen etc
7) To many French who think they own the resort
I will accept that this is not general to all French resorts. There are smaller resorts that can still offer the alpine feel, are a little cheaper and to a certain extent friendlier, but as you were considering Chamonix, i offered Les Arc...
If you wish to blast wide open piste, billiard table smooth, km after km, then go ahead. You`ll be sharing it with hip wiggling French skiers for whom it was designed.
If you wish to have a bit of a challenge, you`ll have to climb, get well out of bounds (especially in Chamonix)...
I personally feel that the pistes offered in BG can give you a challenge, and the off-piste is less used, more of a wilderness, and to this end, more exciting...
Hey, only my opinion, you`s takes your choice
