Hi there. Booked my first ever ski holiday ( Borovets). Going April 4th for a week and I am concerned the lifts will be closed for the season. Any ideas when they close and what are the chances of there being snow? I have spent a lot of money on lessons etc and don't want my first ski holiday to be on a grassy mountain! Was really looking forward as I originally read there is usually good snow until end of April but now I'm getting a little concerned. Many thanks, Neil.
Not sure about Borovets but in Pamps they normally close about 15th April but due to the snow coverage and long range snow forecast they are concidering extending the dates for closure of the lifts this year.
No idea about when the lifts will close or if they will be extended but in terms of snow there will be loads to ski. The top is like one big piste and will take ages to melt.
I've been in Bansko the last week of the season three times now first time the weekend had the best snow all season (not a good snow season for Europe that year)
but its good because its much less busy so great to learn and one morning I had 4 pistes all to myself & wife amazing.
Its also good in that its Hot too - blue sky and sking is nice muh nicer than a White out or blizzard for a Novice thats for sure.
Plus its lovely to have a few drinks on the slopes in the sun to enjoy the view.
Brilliant snow and there is a deffinite confirmation from the high that Borovets will be open during all of April providing there are skiers.
As for the facts in Gareth's post :
The snow in the Alps is at a record level as well around 50 year(for Bulgaria it is 60-70 years) best so there are plenty of choices everywhere.
I think he was referring to the end of last season Mikey, you know, when Bansko reopened for Easter at the end of April after a 60cm snowfall... unfortunately the 2 WC events cancelled from Val'd'isere due to poor snow, that Bansko had bid on, could not be run as the snow was of the wrong consistency
Bansko should run till the 2nd weekend in April, or until the last Balkan guest leaves resort, whichever comes first
