Hi TK, i was in the same thought mate, 147 years Surprised I have reviewed the article and i think its trying to explain that it refers to actual weather rather than ski reports, and the first appreciable snow fall for the year... and my German is not that good, as is Google translate...

re: Worse start for snow in the Alps for 147 years

Watching events in Germany, Austria and Finland yesterday, and all look pretty poor snow wise...
Friends off to Tignes this week, fingers crossed for them Wink
We were up on the snow yesterday with our daughter Jessica, two pistes complete with good cover, and nobody around..
Looking a lot better today with good cloud cover and low temps, and the forecast of a bit of snow in the next couple of days, might get out and put my snow tyres on now...

re: Worse start for snow in the Alps for 147 years

Snow is also predicted for Pamps on Wednesday afternoon as well and from a distance it looked as tho there was some snow up there today.

In an email from my sister, who lives in Austria, she says "" The ski resorts here are all worrying because they have none and the competitions come from America and Canada back to Europe in a couple of weeks. Big worries for the sponsors. ""

Looks as tho we are all in the same boat but fingers crossed eh!

Well some parts of the alps are getting a fair bit and making up for lost time. Last week Aosta valley got 45 cm, next 5 days predict a further 70cm or more. Hopefully Bulgaria should see some end of this week but it doesnt look like a massive amount yet, but as we know the forecasts can be a little wanting at times so who knows, the only accurate forecast is to take a look out the window!!!.

Having had 3 family skiing holidays in Borovets we just can't gamble on the weather any more in Bulgaria.

Our first trip was Xmas 2006 and there were just 3 runs opens up the top. The queue for the gondaola was a nightmare with a 45 mins queue for the drag lift after each 5 min run, but it was our first holiday and we still enjoyed it. The village had a great feeling.

Our first trip was Xmas 2006 and there were just 3 runs opens up the top. The queue for the gondaola was a nightmare with a 45 mins queue for the drag lift after each 5 min run, but it was our first holiday and we still enjoyed it. The village had a great feeling.

Then we tried the Feb half term. 2008 was good although we were sunbathing at Sofia airport on teh way home it was that warm. 2009 was the best. One night there was almost 3 ft of snow fell!!! Honest!

Last year we wanted to try somewhere else. We tried the Ski Amade region in Austria.

WOW what a difference! Remember as a family we have to travel in school holidays but the flights were cheaper, self catering same price as Borovets (we stayed in the Flora Apartments in Borovets). Ski hire & lift pass a bit more expensive but boy do you get value for money with miles of pistes available, modern lifts, well maintained pistes, etc and you dont get ripped off on the mountain...drink (& food) the same price as in town.

Fingers crossed for all you Xmas skiers in Bulgaria but I'll never take the gamble again. Its Ski Amade again for me this Xmas.

Festive Greetings
