airport transfers

Hello
Can anyone tell me the best way for a lone traveller to get from sofia airport to bansko? Have been told that the buses are unreliable and taxis from airport are a rip off?!

I would be grateful if you could say just who told you that taxis are a 'rip off' as I tire from hearing this accusation year in year out.

Take a taxi for 5 miles in London and you'll understand what 'rip off' is all about. (No offence intended Danny).

If you decide to take a taxi you can negotiate a fare before you leave, and that's all you pay.

Where is the 'rip off' in that???????

re: airport transfers

No not asking, making false statements albeit from a ' I heard it from somebody source'.

The Bulgarian taxi drivers DO NOT rip people off and it needed to be said.

OK Question

re: airport transfers

blimey i was only asking a question!! My source was the Rough Guide to Bulgaria:

"Providing you don't get ripped off, taxis are a reasonably priced and useful way of getting around in towns and cities...The minority of taxi drivers out to take advantage of foreigners tend to hang around airports, major train stations and city centre hotels, so it's best to go looking for a taxi elsewhere if you have the option."

As i would be getting a taxi from the airport and would be a lone female ...

As i would be getting a taxi from the airport and would be a lone female traveller i don't think it's completely unreasonable to be concerned and see what experiences other people have had, do you?

Simon L - thanks for your nice words, and I am in fact a laydee not a lad but thank you anyway!

ppete - if everyone in bulgaria is as uptight as you I think i'll give it a miss!!

re: airport transfers

PP--being one who loves Bg as much as anyone I must say thet resort taxi's ARE a rip off WHEN compared to standard BG taxis. example is Varna/Sofia taxi's run at about 50stot a km, whereas Pamps and SB taxis meters run at approx 3 leva a km--6 times the price. certainly you can get a taxi from Sofia/Plovdiv cheaper, but the tourists seasons see an incredible hike even for those who know the country and are aware what to expect. Sure, there is an element of supply vs demand.....

Try READING my post before replying next time Benson.

If you negotiate a price before leaving the meter is not relevant. Compared to anywhere else I know of in Europe taxis are very cheap in Bulgaria. If you simply climb in and allow the meter to run up a fat bill then its little wonder that its expensive. You can barter hard with the drivers and the price will come down.

Sunny Beach to Bourgas, driver waited whist we shopped and then took us back 4 hours later. Price....... 20 levs ...

Real rip off that!!!!

Why is it that so many people who never ever even visited the country yet cast dispertions on people just on hearsay.

Maybe having been there more than 20 times does not qualify me from defending them.
