re: apartment cleaning scandal

Our annual maintenance is 10E per square metre. We have brought in an external management company to do rentals although can also bring in private rentals too if we want. They offered in house rental etc but we found them subletting apartments which owners had specified that they didn't want to let out. Lost trust and confidence and so brought in an external managment company. Costs us more but worth it for peace of mind.

So, what rental do you get Steve? Do you get a percentage or is it ...

There's no guarantee. I get all the rental less cleaning costs. e.g 1 night in high season (xmas) = 64 Euro less 5 Euro cleaning. I have to fork out about 20-30 Euro one off fee at the start of the season, can't remember what this is for.
The management seem sound. They are simply trying to create business for the hotel by getting customers in. They can't do that without owner's apartments, and the owners need the management to have a good cashflow in order for the facilities to remain ...

re: apartment cleaning scandal

It all seems such a rip off for you property owners. when I bought out there, I spoke to the locals and got to know people. It was from that that i got to know a cleaner. Although we do not rent out our apt, we still get to go out there two or three times a season. she turns the hot water on and heating and makes up a beds for our arrival which is usually two in the morning. she cleans the apt once a month, changes bulbs, loo roll opens windows etc etc and pays the electricity and water ...

I trust her completely. last year she emailed me to ask if her friends could use our apt for two nights over new year. she could have just let them in without notifying us. she charges €20 per month plus a small amount for laundry. she sends me an email when she has paid my electricity. I have met her hubby and kids. I have passed her details to my friends that have also bought in Bansko who are also v v happy

re: apartment cleaning scandal

Good News,, seems the contract we are tied into says both parties must be happy with it for it to be binding aparently.. so im not happy and hoping to get our own cleaners,,,, however when we tried this before they banned our cleaners from the complex but at least its a step in the right direction

re: apartment cleaning scandal

There are lots of opportunites, both for corrupt companies to rip off apartment owners and also for legit and honest locals to earn a good wage from apartment owners desperate for trustworthy Bulgarian help. Seems to be the luck of the draw which you get.
