Pistes are well groomed, gondola and lifts are all bretty good, we went last year for first time and pleasantly impressed with the slopes, although snow was ok just not enough to explore off piste, ok cafes/bars on the hill but Bansko town is a bit of a dump, but on the plus side the hotels seem great (Kempinski was excellent) and a good ski road to get back down at night, one of the high lights of the day for us, drink late as the lifts close and come down just as it gets dark. Oh and lift pass, lessons etc. very cheap. It's a mixed bag and we probably aren't going back, if your used to Austria, Italy, France, there is something missing. Saying that we would return on a last min deal.
I do not think you went to the same Bansko as me ? can you please explain why a dump ? very old buildings , cobbled stone roads. perhaps you wanted Milton keynes ? If you are talking about the new developments yes, but they are not Bansko town.
Don't be offended dave, I am sure that Bansko old and new town look great under 50cm of fresh snow, it certainly improved the one time we saw it snow covered, hid the unfinished pavements, We were hasseled to enter every restaurant you pass, once you in they are all the same, meat on a stick with cabbage, come on guys it's a place trying to happen, the only bit I really liked were the important parts; Kempinski hotel and the whole mountain, and we are there to snowboard and ski but it's what ...
