hi there , im going to Bansko this year and was wandering what the skiing and snowbaordind is like this. I went to Borovets last year and had a good one,the snow was at its worst towards the end of the week, but still do able. 10 of us are hitting the slopes in Bansko in the 1st week of feb,if anyone has any opinions on Bansko or helpfull hints then let me know.
skiing in bansko is excellent, the mountain is kept well. some down points can be the gondola does get very busy, we tend to get there at 8.15ish and there are usually no ques. Prices in bars and resturants are very good. The Irish bar offers 50% off local beer and wine between 5 and 6 or 6 and 7 cant remember which but works into coming off the slopes makes the beer about 75p a pint. Anything else just ask
Bansko is no good for skiing. Go somewhere else. Most of the time many of the slope is closed, and your skiing is limited to very few slopes and many people.
The information is very bad from ulen, and the Bansko skiing homepage always says all open, but it is not.
I think Jimmys 'review' isn't hugely balanced. Bansko ioverall imho is good value for money. yes there are issues with chair closures etc but I'm sure this is the case in other resorts - and it clearly suffering this year due to the lack of snow in Boro. All that said - I spent 5 days last year aroun mid-late Jan and had no real issues other than a couple of char lifts being closed due to winds - and as I have previously posted that was due to high winds - genuinely.

There is a lot of talk on this board right now about impartiality etc etc - so for the record I am a neutral. No property of businesses out there - and no intention of changing that. I just went, liked it so am going back.... (in about3 weeks).
Jimmy,
Change the record it seems to have stuck again. Its obvious you will never say anything constructive so perhaps best to say nothing at all!
Andrew,
Please dont listen to Jimmy, he will always highlight the negative, but forgets to mention the positive.
The slopes are generally well kept and there are sufficient of them to keep up to an early intermediate happy for a weeks holiday. Sometimes the slopes marked as open on the website are not open when you arrive, sometimes this is ...

The slopes are generally well kept and there are sufficient of them to keep up to an early intermediate happy for a weeks holiday. Sometimes the slopes marked as open on the website are not open when you arrive, sometimes this is due to wind.
I have visited 4 times and am returning in ten days for my 5th visit, I have visited several countries to ski and there is nothing wrong with Bansko that will ruin a holiday, yes the communication from ulen (the lift operator) can seem poor, but the mountain has variety and the resort is by european standards still inexpensive.
The town of Bansko is something else, olde worlde with good inexpensive resteraunts, Hotels are generally modern or recently refurbished, food on half board buffet style can be a little bland, but that is the norm, food in resteraunts is better and there is now a wide variety available in the town.
There can be queues for the gondola in the morning rush, but if you get there early its not normally a problem, there have been recent reports of very large queues, these appear to have been due to the closure of the other bulgarian resorts and others in eastern europe due to poor snow and also lift closures due to high winds in resort, the lifts to the right as you look can be affected by winds but on my previous 4 visits have been open all week. It would appear that there have been particular problems with the weather recently.
The snow base is currently 110cm at the top and 70cm elswhere as reported by ulen, someone at resort will be able to confirm if this is the case, (ulen can be on the optimistic side sometimes). This should mean that by the time you visit at the beggining of feb conditions should be very good.
I am sure you will have a great time.
I am use to skiing in very different parts of europe and if you only want inexpensive hollydays and cheap beer there are a lot of other eastern europe ski resorts or bars.
You can go to slovakia, poland or czech republic etc. I love to travel in bulgaria and eastern europe and has no bad feelings about this part of the wold. I love the food the people, the culture, the historie, the nature etc. But the skiing and the managment from ulen is no god. The homepage has stated all open the last ...

The homepage has stated all open the last month, but it has not been at all. This is not good and not honest buisnes.
And also it seems to be a very windy place because platato has allmost been closed for the last 3-4 weeks due to high winds stated by ulen when you bye liftpasses.
And besides that there are a lot of snow other places in europe right now. I think also england and scotland. in sweden and norway there are also a lot of snow but expeensive beers. Besides that sweden is inexpensive at the moment (i am not swedish).
Jimmy,
Theres a foot of snow in my garden but it doesnt make it a ski resort.
Last time I went to Sweden it was approx £7 for a beer, hardly inexpensive.
Andrew didnt ask what the skiing is like elswhere in Europe he said he IS going to Bansko and wanted to know about BANSKO, if he wanted to know about elswhere maybee he would have titled the topic WHERE CAN I SKI OTHER THAN BANSKO!!.
Ulen does have its faults and we were there at christmas why platato was closed we don't understand as the winds were not that high. But praise where praise is due they worked dame hard once the temps dropped to fill in all the gaps and give some really good ski conditions.
Bansko has its faults but it is a good ski area with enough for beginner and intermidates, you will ehjoy it and take the good and bad comments on here and make up your own mind.
DON. He did not ask for beer prices either, therefore my 2. answer was not to andrew in particularry. And I also stated that beer was expensive in sweden.
If you have problem with your memory here is my first answer: "Bansko is no good for skiing. Go somewhere else. Most of the time many of the slope is closed, and your skiing is limited to very few slopes and many people.
