We got back last night - had a great time - there was a lot of new snow on one day only - but my husband and daughter managed to get skiing in all the days we were there - yes, some lifts were closed due to GENUINE high winds - I know I took the gondola up with my youngest to take some photos of the 'skiers'. bloody windy! Yes, the queues were incredibly long - over 1hr wait but that was our fault for choosing to go from 3rd - 8th Jan!

There are plenty of pistes to keep everyone happy. The night life is plentiful and very cheap - the Irish Pub has it's happy hr from 5-6pm (as stated before) took me a while to find that place though - determination to get a cheap pint won - and my kids loved it there as they took over the Wii.
On our first night we just went to the tiny Mehana across from the ice skating rink - we had chicken soup - Bansko pork dish - 2 crepes with real chocolate (not spread) 2 cokes and hmmmm a litre of wine - we paid 15lev approx 8euro!
You can eat very cheaply in Bansko - the more expensive pubs like 'Happy End' right at the gondola charge 5lev for most drinks.
We will be back again soon - this is a first for hubby to want to return to a place - Bansko got lots of thumbs up from us - the only REAL downside for me - was the Greek tourists (the older ones ..... made me wish I didn't understand Greek - moaning lot!) and the Mehana's eagerness to please the Greeks by playing Greek music - the last bloody thing I wanted to hear after driving 6 hours!
Biggest laugh for me was telling hubby to slow down as everyone was following the speed limit on the journey back - he mocked me and on the next turn was pulled over by the cops - you should have seen the colour drain from his face!!! 50lev inside the passport (as told to do) and we were back on the road at 60km/hr NOT 100!
Have a great time we did!

re: bansko

LOL - Mr Jayne didn't do it - as he had his daughter with him and it would have been a bit too much for her - however looking down from the gondola - we saw plenty of people skiing/ snowboarding home* (happy end)

Hi Bansko is great for all round value , all resorts suffer from winds, low snow etc , i have snowboarded all over the world , if you want typical europe doont go to Bansko , if you are / and have an open mind and want new adventure then do , you can eat in english type food pubs, but for the ore adventurous try the local Bulgarian mehanas , slope is mega for beginners and intermediates alike , for the more advanced it is a little bit limited but you can hire a local guide and go off piste ...
