Far be it from me to put anyone off of bulgaria but if your holidays are fixed then you may want to look into other higher resorts as before the middle of Jan the snow is by no means guaranteed. If you were going 4 weeks later then i would definately rocomment Borovets

im off to pamporovo in christmas and i cannot wait because im only back from the place a month for the first time and i loved it!!i didnt want to go gome at all!it was the best holiday ever and the skiing and ski-instructors couldnt get any better than they were!!and also the bulgarians were some of the nicest people u could ever meet, u wouldnt find kinder people anywhere!!go to pamporovo as it is good for beginners and the place is just magnificent!!
