re: best resort?

Well, for my 2p worth. I've skied Pamporovo mainly for 2 weeks at a time for the past 15 years. I've never been bored because I find the place so friendly, although it has gone through some huge changes in that time. Better hotels now, better food and the nightlife never fails to be anything other than a blast. But yes I agree for anyone that wants long, and vaired runs Pamporovo is limited. I prefered the place 10 years ago when it was raw and basic but always a home from home atmosphere ...

I always try to spend at least one day a week in Chepalare as the runs are quieter and much more challenging.

Bansko, I tried for the first time last year and didn't enjoy it, mainly because of the closure problems which restricted our skiing time - I think we just chose the wrong week. Found the nightlife to be much less intense than Pamporovo and whilst I can see why many people love the place I doubt if I will ever return there. However once on the slopes they are without doubt the best I have skied in Bulgaria.

Borovets I am trying for the first time ever in March '08 so I can't comment - but it will need to be very special to stop me from returning to Pamporovo in 2009.

Skiing gives me wings to fly - Pamporovo for me gives me the freedom to enjoy everything I want in a skiing holiday.

re: best resort?

couldn't agree more Pete, love pamps... and didn't enjoy Bansko at all.. But mainly due to lack of snow me thinks, although as mentioned, nightlife is a bit different!!!! back to Pamps 1st week in March, missed it massively last year after 3 consecutive and can't wait to get back...
Just hope the snow is good, every time I have been the snow has been class in pamps so fingers crossed for this year, but I might be tempted to borovets 2009 depending on the reviews it get's of first timers ...

I have to agree with PP its Pamporovo for me - not been to Bansko but did do Borovets (Horrovets) once and hated it!
Just a matter of personal preference I suppose.

Bansko with snow and knowledge of bars and retaurants further afield than 200 meters from the hotel. You just can't beat it.

I vowed never to return to Pamps after the horrendous lift queues I experienced in 2005.

re: best resort?

Bansko is definitely no 1 for me. Although I've 76 days to wait 'til I'm there Crying

re: best resort?

Only been to Boro...once many years ago 84 I think and last year. Took my partner and as a beginner she really enjoyed it. The resort has grown a lot in twenty odd years but the snow was great and it looks like being an even better season this year...pity I can't make it; but will definitely be back next year...so Boro for me

Pamps for me just love the place, if your not a ski nut and dont need to do the miles it has everything, the atnosphere is great the snow nearly always is great, the runs limited but good also you are only a short taxi ride from chepelere which has some testing ski slopes and the longest single run in bulgaria. i even like to see charlie diesel and chicargo bulls and there mates plying there trade, it wouldnt be the same without them. And the nightlife is as relaxed or as intense as you want ...
