best way to go it alone

looking into borovets sometime from 6th march onwards, looked at package holidays, not getting what i want due to single supplement on rooms

what the best way to book things seperatley?

i;ve seen flights on easyjet for £144 for departures 6/3 or 13/3
or £114 for departures 20/3

whats the snow like on the later date in march?

also transfers from the airport, is there ways to share transfers than book a car for just myself?

im in the same boat as you laura, well sort of! i dont go alone but i am single, ive always stayed at the samokov, untill this year no other choice realy with thompsons. it works out dearer then your price of £114, but what you do need to consider is the other costs? ie transfers, breakfasts, dinners, close to town!

Laura

The Lion Hotel is a little way out of town, 10-15 min walk (although I've not actually walked this). Whilst this may be cheaper I would certainly go for the Rila, its a good hotel and is slap bang in resort centre - you can ski right in to hotel if enough snow. Only a road to cross if not.

Other hotels with good deals tend to be Iglika and Breza where I am staying next week (yaaaay).

I've seen your other posts ref going alone. I would definitely go alone myself (I am male so a little different without being sexist). People are friendly and IMHO its a fun resort. I would advise a ski group just for social aspect you don't need to stay with them and it helps break the ice. The instructors aren't too heavy either.

Good luck and enjoy, Danny

re: best way to go it alone

PS snow is usually very good in March from reading many other posts and I think its going to be a late sason this year - just a feeling.

I had all in cost inc full ski pack lift pass lessons etc with Inghams for £520. I reckon you should be able to get a deal for £400 - £450 currently. Not sure how single supplements effect this though.

Laura,

Perhaps I'm a coward when it comes to travel, so I take my hat off to anybody who is prepared to travel alone.

If you've not been to Bulgaria before I really think you should consider some sort of package deal, or travel with somebody.

These thoughts were only my own insecurities showing through, I soon realised that everything was fine and Bulgarians are generally very very nice people.

I was with my young family and the kids were pretty unhappy at first. The hotel was awful and next day we asked to upgrade to the best hotel in resort, which at the time we were told was the Samakov. Once at the Samakov everything was fine.

This was eight years ago and I believe that there are better places to stay now and maybe all the standards have improved. I would definately would go back.

Just my own thoughts. You are clearly a confident person and will make the right decision.

Good Luck.

N.

re: best way to go it alone

Laura, I was out in Boro last Feb with a friend, ski-ied in ski school, met a load of friends, and felt that I would be quite happy to be out there on my own. I would definately consider going back out there in March. Let us know what happening!!!

re: best way to go it alone

Laura,

Take no notice of me I'm just a silly old fool and doting father and was having a serious moment.
A girl my daughter knew (not quite a friend) had a mishap in New Zealand over the Christmas holiday and it was making me think of the hazards of travelling alone.

Not a Bulgaria issue at all, but perhaps a reminder to always take care.

Back to normal tomorrow. Please don't expect any more serious / sensible comments from me again for a while.

Enjoy Bulgaria.

hi laura
if you really have nobody to go with them id look at pistepals website www.pistepals.com
its a website specially for solo travellers, people let down by their mates etc...they have a discussion bit on the website where you can join a party of people in the same boat.. ive used them before for last minute trips, end of season trips etc. most of them are in france though but theres nothing stopping you posting to get some people together ...
