re: borovets general report

Thank you Kim Wink

I'm just miffed that my love affair with Bulgaria seems to be over. I've been to Borovets 4 times and Sunny Beach twice and I've realised I have now got to find somewhere else beautiful, cheap and friendly and not overcrowded with drunken Brits to go on holiday. I don't fancy my chances much tbh

Thanks Kim and Mojo, yeah here is hoping for lots of snow at the end of the week fingers crossed. Am actually really looking forward to it, should be really good! The nightime skiing is this something that is recommended and does anyone know the cost of it?

Do what I did Mojo - go to NZ for the summer - perfect!!!

Nice folk, good skiing, great scenery - umm - expensive though - but blooming fab (and if I work out per week what it cost me to get there - in fact - not that expensive!!)

Whoops....just came across this when browsing the net...now pretty worried as I'm heading to Borovets on 22nd March...sounds awful according to some comments??! And, if there's no snow now, what'll it be like by Easter?! Confused

Apparently there is normally a massive dump of snow around mid March. Keep this site in your favourites and you can check on the white stuff regularly Very Happy

re: borovets general report

I got back early hours of Sunday morning from Boro. 2nd time there in 12 months, have also been to bansko and pamps in the past. And 6 weeks ago, booked/went to Austria to see what that was like, havinlg only ever skied in BG.
My impressions of Boro this year were poor. The prices have gone sky high, I stayed away form the other postings on the prices until I had sampled them myself. They have doubled since I was there last March.

The main street is looking dirty and tired and could do with a good clear up, but there is still fun to be had.
Pay for the drinks as you go in the bars, as we noticed on one occassion this time that the number of drinks we had had, had been inflated and they tried to overcharge us. This led to things getting very stupid and out of hand, and spoilt our night out.
We went with friends who had never been on the slopes before and their instructor just seemed to leave them to do there thing as his group had mixed abilities in it. Not his fault I know, people lied when they were selected for the group, but he then paid them more attention when he was supposed to be teaching beginners. Several times they were left to get up the drag lift and slide down the green bit with no tuition. They will probably never ski again having not enjoyed it as much as they should ( a member of their group got threatened with a knife in a bar one evening by a local)

Comparing this last trip to Boro with the one to Soll in Austria a few weeks ago.....there is no comparrison. Austria wins hands down. The cost of the trip was the same, the drinks/meals there were certainly cheaper than in Boro, the place was spotless, and the slopes were well maintained and many many more of them. Not once did I see any of the piste bashers out this last week trying to fix the melting runs. It was as if they had given up and gone home as it is the end of the season. I know the snow/thaw is not their fault, but hey, they could have put some effort into keeping them going, such as scooping snow off other areas and dropping onto runs etc.
These views are the views of me and me alone.....

Hi all
I was there at half term and had a really good holiday
Instructor from the Samakov school was v good, found cheap bars
The smell of woodsmoke is lovely, same as at my parents who have a wood burning fire.
Yes there could be improvements but it is Bulgaria and a country that has a lot to do to catch up with Austria or France.
As for cheaper tell me where
Just looking for a trip at Easter, will need to do 12 hours driving each way (yuk) and with food passes tolls etc etc cant grt ...
