re: borovets general report

Yep with you all the way folks, 4th time in borovets have really enjoyed them, but the bubble has burst will not be going back again.Staff, workers and locals just so rude with a take it or leave it atitude shame because they could'nt do enough for us previous years.Borosport ski equipment very poor. All drink and food prices have just gone silly, not for me anymore !

hi kim

the snow conditions are not to bad its just on the lower runs, get yourself over to the yastrabets this mountain has plenty of snow.

rila mountains are suffering and deffo could do with some snow, the problem being is they cannot use snow cannons untill the temps drops to -3 and then they can be fired up.

Its does look like snow is on its way this friday,so hopefullly you and all ppl going away shortly will be fine for the snow

re: borovets general report

Thanks Mr P. I am in Bansko first (15 March) and then Boro - very late - 5 April (it seemed a good idea at the time when I booked - lol.

I had 2 smashing years of snow in Bansko then last year was rough - as was everywhere BUT it dumped mega after I left Bansko last year (same time near enough) and was good until April so who knows - things can change very quickly on the mountain - I hope they do!

Cheers!

re: borovets general report

Must agree with most of the above, we have been for the last three years to borovets, and this was our last, we returned on Sunday, the place is now dirty you can still get good food - sunnys and alpin but the prices have gone up by around 25%, the slush is very dangerous at the botton outside Ice angels, and the masla run should not have been open last week, I skiied it on Monday and had to get a full service on my skis that night due to the rocks.

My sons (aged 9 & 11) instructor on the first morning took the group to the top of the 4 man chair, said follow me and went, my eldest said it took the group 45 mins to catch him up after he had stopped two turns later, the whole thing was very dangerous with the better of the children skiiers helping the others, when he told me this at lunch we changed instructor for the whole group.
The lift system - well I should say drag system is old hat and most stop at some point of the day for a man to climb a ladder and beat the hell out of it with a big hammer.
The locals just want your money, in the white bear my sons group would eat and drink each lunchtime, the menu said the small coke/fanta (300ml) was 4.5 levs they were always charged 5.0.
my youngest son is a size 4 boot, we told the hire shop and got one boot size 4 and the other size 5, when we told them they just shrugged their shoulders and turned away, luckily our rep spoke bulgarian and sorted the problem out.
All in all this was my worst skiing holiday (I have been skiing 20 years) and has put me off bulgaria for good, looks like I will be looking at Austria next year unless others can direct me elsewhere

re: borovets general report

I have just finished reading through all the posts and it all makes very interesting reading.
I came back from Borovets on Sat and had a great week and really couldn't think of anything to be seriously negative about, apart from an hour and a half delay on the flights there and back, and obviously more snow would have been very welcome. Neither of these complaints are anything that Borovets could control!

I was out there for a week last year in Feb and can honestly say that I didn't think that the prices had gone up that much. Things like water were more expensive up the mountain last year, so this time we bought a large bottle and filled up a small bottle to take with us each day.
Things like food and hot chocs etc seemed to be pretty much the same price as last year, or maybe a lev more expensive.

I had one of the best ski instructors I have ever had this year, and last year the instructor was good too. But when I skied in France I had one of the worst instructors I have ever had, and in Andorra I had a very good instructor, but my husbands wasn't that great. So I have learnt from previous skiing trips that it all comes down to the person, not the country they come from.

The hotel I stayed in in Andorra was not as warm or comfortable as either of the hotels I stayed in last year or this year. This year I stayed in the Iglika and thought it was perfect for location, comfort and food.

I know that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and the above is mine. But people will only generally bother to write about something when it's negative, which I do also understand. That is why I decided to write my thoughts because they are more positive, and because it makes me a little sad to read all the negative comments.

I will definately be skiing in Borovets again, and I hope that everyone else who is due to ski there this year has a really good time.
Very Happy

re: borovets general report

I am very jealous Dan I wish I was going!
Have you skied before?

I didn't mention snow in my report, but it pretty much echoes what most people are saying. It could be better at the bottom, but I have seen worse. At the top it is fine, and there is lots of it. So much in fact, that when I came a cropper and then went to stand up on the side of the slope where the snow was off piste it came up to my knees!

The good thing about having to go up to the top of the mountain to ski is the views, because they are magnificent!
