re: bugaria ski

Well hello to you all,
I am going to Borovets on 27th January. This will be the 7th year running that I have been there (maybe it's 8?). I always go with a good crowd of people (including kids) and we always have a brilliant time.
How anyone (and I mean anyone) can NOT enjoy a week in Borovets is absolutely beyond me.
You can't go wrong. It's cheap, it's chearful, the people are brilliant, the ski instructors are fabulous and everyone that goes there, is there to have fun.

There are no ski snobs (well, apart from Mike) and the hot chocolate and brandy is to die for.
It's not about having an open mind, it's about having fun and enjoying yourself. If you don't manage to do that then there is something fundamentally wrong with you.
Chill out and get ready to enjoy!!!
See you all there - H x

It has to be said that the criac we had last year was unbelivable. There were 11 of us in our ski class all first timers and I can honestly say I never laughed so much in my life. Pamps is a fantasitc place to go especially for begineers.
From what I heard about France and Andorra the tuition is not on a par with Bulgaria. Our instructor Jorge was second to none had the patience of a saint God knows he needed it with us half drunk every morning going for lessons. Noone felt excluded ...

Our instructor Jorge was second to none had the patience of a saint God knows he needed it with us half drunk every morning going for lessons. Noone felt excluded and everyone in the group left Bulgaria being able to ski! (Miracle - if anyone has seen us the initial few days Razz Razz

Ok, bit of perspective here. Before i start, this is from someone who was in Boro last year and had a wonderful time. I've skied various other resort around Europe as well, so i can speak about both sides.

The reason that attracts most people to Bulagria initially is the cost - it is alot cheaper than Western Europe (particually France) to ski. As with everything, there are trade-offs for that. The infrastructure is not great, there are not 100's of KM of piste and organisation in general could be improved. There is also a certain seedyness in the resorts, and this can attract a certain kind of people to them (you may see this as good or bad...). Some facilities are pretty basic too.

On the plus (other than cost), the resorts are very lively and you can have a truly great time there. The people are, in the main, very friendly and the instruction does recieve excellent reviews (i didn't use so can't comment). The accomodation i used (Hotel Edelweiss) was excellent and would not look out of place anywhere.

Overall, if you accept certain drawbacks then it is fine for many skiers, and the majority of people who go there will have a good time, as i did. Me, i won't be going back in the near future because i like more variety of piste to ski. I would recommend it to certain types of people (beginners, single sex groups) but not others (anyone better than intermediate, "older" groups).

P.S. Sorry for the long post!!!!!
