I changed a load of money to Lev before i went to pamps last season. Definitely taking sterling this year to change in resort. The exchange rate was much better out there. Also, saves getting ripped off if you have to change any levs back to £ when you get back.
Exchange rate really has minimal effect on your overall moneyI find. So just get it from post office cos there's no comission - saves hassle of shopping around just to save a few quid.
one other thing, being a costomer of Halifax, i walked into my local branch last year with a load of levs to change back to stirling as they said they could change foreign currency and pay it straight into your current accont. Good... Except nobody at the branch was willing to do it cos they wouldn't believe me when i said it was Bulgarian Levs. "how do we know its real?" they said. Idiots. Post office on the other hand, have a big book of all the world's currencies telling them what to look ...

Sounds worse? 2.8 means I get 280 levs per £100 instead of getting 247 levs for the same at the post office. Thats better. Even at the official mid market rates of 2.72 lev to the £, thats 10.5% more levs in your pocket than at the post office.
Ahh no hassle of shopping around to change money in resort - at Bansko I just change it at the Booth at the Gondola base station, and the rates are better than travelex/M&S/PO, or in hotel - easy, as its on my way anyway.

I used to never bother with the rate, thinking, a little bit less here or there doesn't matter, but after just having gone around the South America for 5 months, and being in the middle of a 3 year extended all over the world trip - saving 5% or more every time I change money works out to be quite alot over time - means I have to work less to travel more... So that makes it worthwhile. I guess its less important if you are only going for a quick week somewhere though.
four of us went to pamps for christmas last year. bought a new washing machine and put money bank in the bank with what we brought back with us! Very cheap
Just got in from getting my Lev from Travelex. Best rate today is 2.62 and you can take out a buyback insurance for £3.50 so you can sell back at the same rate if you are worried that you will get ripeed off when selling back. They can be found at any airport. Order on t'internet and pick up when you get there. (Tip - give at least 2 days notice as not commonly available like Euros)
