i've been told that you get better rates exchanging sterling to lev in bulgaria than in the UK, can anyone confirm this?
also heard that the black market is rife when it comes to exchanging currency, is this true?
There are some golden rules about changing money in Bulgaria. Like every country in the world, Bulgaria has it's share of conmen trying to make a fast buck. SO.....
NEVER CHANGE MONEY ON THE STREETS OR ON THE SLOPES. No matter what rate you are offered because you will be conned by being given old useless currency or currency of another country which again is virtually worthless. Nor should you change money at any Cash Booth unless it bares the Crown Insignia. Again others are run by conmen ...

Thousands of tourists (mainly in the summer) get caught by these people every year (including me many years ago) so just don't do it.
Instead, change your money at your hotel reception or with the main banks. The rate will vairy but you can expect to get approx. 2.75 levs to the £. (As I said, this may vairy.) Cash dispensers are also wide spread and offer a good rate. All of these are safe to use - just make sure you are using them in private. There were a few isolated cases of cards being cloned in the summer - but this also can happen in the UK as well as anywhere else.
Please - take my advice and you will have no problems.
i know it is not a en expensive holiday, but would you say £400 is enough for one week? bearing in mind ski hire and pass are all bought and paid for in advance.
Great advice PP to that never ending question....one thing worth noting, if you have time, open a Nationwide Flex account....this way you can withdraw cash from machines abroad with absolutely no charges or commission, and the best thing of all is you get by far the best rate....have been doing it for years!
when you use cash machines, even in this country and chip and pin cover your pin number, the amount of people who just put in there pin for everyone to see shocks me,
but if you want too lose all your info and let criminals get cash on your behalf, just let the british government have them and you are well away. Far more sucessful then any where in bulgaria.
