First time in pamps since 2006 and it is much quieter than i remember.....poor snow over the past 2 seasons and the economic climate i imagine are the main reasons.
Aside from many more shops, eateries and watering holes im very disappointed that there seems to be a lack of bulgarian authenticity this time around.....i know, i know that popularity and cheap prices will eventually breed higher prices and over commercialism, flooding the resort with imported bottles of bulmers at 10 lev ...

I miss the Lada taxi's and the even greater lack of english spoken by the staff in resort, call me old fashioned, or miserable, or both!!! i dont care!!!
I wouldnt mind, but i dont believe that the extra cash we spend is getting shared out here fairly....i have no facts to back this up, just a hunch ;-|
Anyway....i still love Pamp's, and Bulgaria in general - its customs and traditions, and some very charming, warm people. I guess things just change??? You have to roll with it.
Hi there, we are heading over on the 14th of March and listening to all reviews we are really worried. Its our first time and by the sounds ofthings it sounds really expensive and seems to be like a ghost town can you give me a bit more info. Are all the places closed? Are prices really expensive over there?
Hi we are just back from Pamporovo, our first visit as we have bought an apartment there(its not finished yet) The snow was very good (we were there till 27th) then went on to Bansko. We thought the food prices and drink were to expensive, the hoteliers etc there will have to face up to the fact folk wont get back if they charge silly prices.
On saying this we had a great time and had some good meals. Some people are very friendly others rather rude, but he you get that all over the world ...

We spoke to a local and a lot of money is being pumped into the area, 100 more snow machines over the next few years, so it wont matter if the snow is not so good, plus it will make the season longer.
Good food and friendly service in the Bulgarian style wooden resturant on the corner across from the small supermarket, with back to super market its the one on the left.
hi niky.....sorry if my post has made you panic, that was not my intention.
not everything is closed, far from it...there are many venues to eat, drink and be merry. it just seems that in recent years prices have steadily increased, but i guess that is the way it has to be now that bulgaria is in the EU and it tries to claw in more revenue to improve and compete with resorts in the alps.
on the upside of a quiet resort - no lift queues!!! smaller ski school groups also are a bonus ...

i would highly recommend the Markony for value for money, located above the snowshack...good food served, plus you can get a pint for just 3 lev ;-)
the perelik hotel is offering very good deals at present on massage's and other beauty treatments - worth a look!
if you get the chance, venture just out to villages and try your hand in a local bar/restaraunt for value and a taste of Rhodopean life.
enjoy yourself niky.......i'll even do a snow dance for you!!!
Hi dougie, i dont do the ski (OAP) but i have been going to sunny beach every summer twice for the last 13 years and i am finding things changing (not for the better) but i do still love the country and its people and i do eat and drink in bulgarian restaurants with the locals. I hope you carry on enjoying the country. Carolv
