Just back from pamps today. The resort is relatively quiet (apart from first 3 days when it was a bulgarian national holiday and we had long queues) but this made for a fab week - no queue's in latter half of week and great skiing - only 4 of us in our intermediate ski group so tuition was fab!

Suzie is right about being selective on where to eat and drink and it not being that expensive. If you go to the tourist spots (White hart, Daks etc) then you will pay tourist prices - although with beer at 5 levs for local brew and vodka & coke 6 levs (standard measure is UK double) even these places are slightly less expensive than most UK bars. Any imports are more expensive as you would expect.
I would recommend a couple of the local restaurants/bars - we went to the Danmar (slightly out of the centre on the main road into pamps) where we made a friend of the owner - Benzi - and enjoyed a good few evenings there - Beer 3 levs, local spirits 2 - 3 levs depending on what you have - food very reasonable (9-10 levs for very nice pizza). Also bar across from Danmar (can't remember the name but looks like a wooden hut from outside) - ask for Mikey - very hospitable!
On slopes I ate at the Lodge at top of mountain and Golden Eagle - more expensive than in town but didn't find it to bad.
Final recommendation is for the two bridges bar - this is on the flat part of the green near the bottom of the run. Ask for Tony - he has to be the friendliest bulgarian we met - I can recommend the hot wine in here at 3 levs - he serves it from a teapot which he has warming by the log fire - great way to finish off a day's skiing. Also you must try his chicken soup! 4 levs - its lovely!
Anyone out there or heading out there soon have a great time - we did!!!!!
I'm off to Pamps on the 14th March. Seems to be a mixed view on the place, but more concerned about the skiing. I am at a good level and was wondering what the runs are like as there does not seem to be many. Night life looks good, so I am guessing I will need to catch up on sleep when I get back
For a bit of Bulgarian authenticity try one of the villages just outside Pamps .Theres a place called Momchilovtsi 6km as the crow flys and 13km by road .There are a couple of good restaurant/pubs there with live music most w/ends .Its very friendly there and English is spoken in the pubs.AND its still .50p a pint and u can get a 3 course meal for a fiver .
