re: helmets

Hi Kate, Helmet.

Well the option is yours, you will find majority of disscussion board members will say Get a Helmet.
Having worn a helmet for past 5 + yrs it has saved me the odd headache or 3.
I'm not sure about hiring them out there. If your a learner whilst it's an extra cost, you don't know who or what makes you fall over and hits your nogin.

S.P. Go get one.

re: helmets

Hi Kate, I must agree with SP. Give it 5/10 years and my guess is it will be pretty much compulsory. You wouldn't drive a car without wearing a seat belt so why take the risk of an out of control skier/boarder hitting you ? I dare say insurance companies will cotton on soon !

re: helmets

Hi Kate, I also agree and would strongly advise wearing a helmet it only takes a little bump to cause problems , it seems to be about 50/50 wearing helmets but the number is increasing every season ! Teresa

re: helmets

Got to agree with everyone helmets are a lifesaver. groomed piste are not as soft as you think they are. A collision with another skier can be nasty also. Get a helmet, I love to see people wearing them on the plane, so I'm not the only one.

re: helmets

If you decide to wear one, you definitely want to be buying one before you go and not renting, for safety, hygiene, and comfort reasons!

re: helmets

Hi, got to agree with above, we never used to wear them but our teenage son fell and only hit his head on the hard snow, but ended up feeling quite ill/sick, got him checked out & they said he'd got quite bad concussion, lasted a few days & couldn't snowboard. We all wear them now as made us realise how easy it is to cause quite a bad injury, not worth the risk. They had good ones at Aldi last year and really good price Smile

re: helmets

Would hate to see it made compulsary, the granny state deciding again what is best for us... but if you are level headed and want to remain that way, i would advise wearing one... i did not wear a helmet until 2 years ago, after 30 + years of skiing, and i must admit to it not saving me at all, or it has not had to Wink but it has kept my ears warm Very Happy i did get smashed in the face with a cut back branch off-piste, loosening some teeth and splitting my gums, perhaps i should go for a full ...
