honest report on borovets

came back on 26/02/05, hotel rila good and clean and quite modern, food was to say the best eatable,
THE PISTES WERE VERY POOR AND THE GROOMING WAS A WASTE OF TIME, EVEN THE RUNS AT THE TOP OF THE GONDALA THE RED ONE IN THE MIDDLE, WAS QUITE EMPTY DOWN THE ONE SIDE & I SOON FOUND OUT WHY ROCKS ! AND I MEAN BIG ONES. THE ONE BLACK ONE OUTSIDE THE RILA THE GRASS WAS COMING THROUGH AND ALL THE ONES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE GONDALA HAD STONES AND WERE TURNING TO SLUSH.

there were kids begging in the streets, the only good thing was the borosport ski school which my wife attended and ross was a good instructor and he even said that you could not depend on the snow.
the capitol sofia made you fell unsafe.
before you go read the where to ski guide as there provide a true acount of borovets and backs up what i am saying.
I HAD TO GO AND FIND OUT FOR MYSELF BUT WILL NOT BE GOING BACK AGAIN,
by the way i was in the rilas lobby bar at 2100hrs on sunday. Sad Sad

Woudn't you say that opions are 'personal opions'? I always find what 1 person likes another may not like and I think that is very much so with this site!!!!!!!!!!!!

You were seen in the lobby bar in your welsh shirt. Perhaps you should have read some info. on borovets before you booked up. It is always classed as a good family resort and excellent for beginners. It doesn't claim to be good for experts, which as a ski instructor you should be. We were there at the same time, a family of five. The three children were beginners but were confident on the reds by the end of the week, we had a great time, spent very little money and were glad to spend our money in a country that so needs it. We didn't go to Sofia, we went to ski! We had six days skiing mostly in sunshine, beats being grounded by blizzards with lifts closed in other resorts i've been too.

Our Party of 7 was there at the same time as yourself. We had a great time. We went up on gondola on the reds and blacks and had no trouble what so ever. The snow was perfect up there. We never saw any rocks uncovered in the snow. The rest of the mountain was fine too. Maybe a little bit icy first thing, but you could manage to ski. The nursery slope was getting a bit slushy towards the end of the week, but that was to be expected with the amount of traffic on it.

Beggars yes we saw a couple of 'kids' most nights but they didnt bother anyone nothing to be afraid of, felt sorry for them. Sofia, yes dont go, waste of time, we went there on our way back to the airport to pass on a few hours no bargins just as prices as UK or maybe a little more expensive.

Bulgaria is a undeveloped country with much poverty, so when travelling there remember this. Borovets is a great place to go, very family orientated and friendly people, great sking, unless your an very advanced skier, (may not be enough for you) not as cheap as expected although in some bars it was a little cheaper than back home. We all would definately go back it was great fun and the kids couldnt get enough! So go there with an open mind and to enjoy yourselves, Happy sking!!!!!!!!

re: honest report on borovets

To be fair on snarfacus it sounds to me that he would have had a much better time if the snow had been better , i went in jan and the snow was great , i saw a few kids begging, and i saw sofia from the plane and that was enough for me but as said in an earlier i went to ski and i enjoyed it.
borovets will soon change for ever and become expensive with lots of new hotels and high prices so perhaps its best to enjoy what we have there as soon you will not have the option of a cheap bulgarian ...

re: honest report on borovets

there were definitely some bare earth and rocks in places, these weren't on all pistes just a couple at the top.

the bottom ones were getting worn and was very slushy although still good skiing
