Smags correct. This happens every where from time to time, even in the resorts in the alps and my native NZ. If you are concerned and if you are sking in a group, swap skis before you go into the cafes ie so the pairs are miss matched (or get a ski lock). The most common place for kit to go missing is when people come of the hill and go to the bars at night after sking and leave kit outside the bars. Not a great idea in any resort. New ski locks on the market, "safeski" a plastic device which slides down the lenght off the ski to the bindings. the only way it can be opened when secure, is with a four digit code. If entered in wrong three time it throws out a nonwashable coloured dye called "courtyuz"
The greatest thing about these is they can be interlocked with other "safeski" locks so you can have a row of 10 ski's all locked together.
Safeski is not availible in shops!
To order call (0044) 0870 SAFESKI.
but how much do they weigh - I am already well over my 20 or 25k - need to weigh up if I would rather have my skies nicked or go without another pair of shoes - its a tough one
The easiest way to prevent your ski's getting stolen is to buy a ski combination lock with an adjustable cable so that you can lock your ski's around a pole or tree etc when you are having lunch or whatever. They only cost about £20, are small, light and very robust. I use mine all the time and have never worried about my ski's being stolen. The cable is almost impossible to cut through unless the thief has some sort of industrial cutter which i can't see someone carrying around the slopes ...
