re: is bulgaria safe?

Ive never heard of muggings in Boro.
Our family of 5 were quite happy to walk around last Jan. There are touts for the bars and a few kids begging in the evenings but they get the message quite quickly and dont really over-intrude on what your doing.

If it was that bad we wouldnt be going back but we are, roll on 5th Jan!

re: is bulgaria safe?

you're in more danger from slipping and breaking something than from personal violence. Remember you're not in the UK, the average salary is about 10% of the UK so don't flash the wedge or you might get trouble. You're pretty likely to get ripped off with bad exchange rates, dodgy fakes, bootleg alcohol and crappy food though, but its all part of the holiday experience so don't worry too much about it.

re: is bulgaria safe?

Apart from the Bears, the Russian Mafia, the screaming kids, the lager drinking Brits and the srums at the ski lifts in the morning. Bulgaria is a safe place. Honest!!!

Infact the most dangerous bit is on the slopes, dodging the out of control skiers after they have consumed the contents of their hip flasks.

re: is bulgaria safe?

This will be our fourth visit and like most of this board they keep returning to bulgaria. So the answer to your question Melissa is it safe but like any where in the world you dont do anything stupid as you wouldnt do at home. I would feel a lot safer drunk three in the morning in Borovets rather than Birkenhead town.Just enjoy yourself and no doubt return next again year Wink

re: is bulgaria safe?

last year i stayed in The Lion Hotel.A couple walked home from the resort centre 1 night (a bit silly cos its a fair trek and you have to go thru a dark road covered with trees) and got mugged.Nothing happens in the centre tho.Its all pukka! in fact im going back there on the 23rd of Feb to the Samakov.Third year on the trot now.16 of us lads from Rugby going this time!
