seems to me that a lot of people are saying they are getting ripped off from the exchange kiosks. well my advice is just take levs out thereor ask in a local shop the more people who avoid using these kiosk will send out a warning so just dont use them for the sake of loosing a few pence its better to get your levs in the uk
I found the Money booths were fine if you carefully checked the small print on their signs outside. No Commission is important and then check the rate they offer...I got a much better rate than back in England from both the post office and Bureau de Change
Borogirl, I don't have the Nationwide card. I am going to bring sterling and get it changed there. Is it the best to go to the bank? Will the exchange rate at the bank be higher than that in UK? Seems the street booths have a better rate than banks, any recommended booths?
Calvin - I've never used the booths. I know the official ones are those with a crown emblem but have never risked it with them.
I always take about £50 in lev to tie me over, sterling to change in the bank and my card to top up (when I've overspent ) from the cash machine outside the Rila.
Never had any problems apart from when the new £20 notes came into circulation, we were the first English people to change them in Boro. They wouldn't accept them until they had checked with ...

They don't like old and tatty notes and never seem to smile
There is a bank in the Samokov but no cash machine that I know of. As you walk in the main door it is down on your right, more a space on the long reception counter. Not sure of opening hours as I usually use the Rila, which often stays open through the night, especially at weekends.
Is it worth opening a Nationwide account just to use the cashpoint in Bansko?
I am personally taking £300 spending money but with 4 more mates going (probably taking around the same each) would it be worth it for the extra few Leva we would get.
Anyone know of s decent business website which will show a historical graph with the lev rate on it? (bbc news dont seem to acknowledge the existance of the lev!)
i had no prob with booths .. i used the same on in boro last week .. it is important to ask ......how many levs will i get for this amount of money.. do not change more than 50 pound at a time ..and go to the busy booths. with another person .. easy realy
