re: money booths

The problem with money boots is more evident in the Summer resorts rather than the winter ones. To be perfectly safe I would always recommend the Crown booths as they are state run.

As far as I'm aware there are no exchange booths in Pamporovo - as least there wasn't up to last year.

re: money booths

Calvin, if you take cash you can change them at the 'crown booths' just check that they are commission free and ask what rate they are giving. But we found that when we changed money in Borovets we got a better rate than at the Post Office and the Banks and Bureau de Change. Hope you have a good time....remember just don't expect too much from the Samakov!

re: money booths

Quick question - last time in Boro we brought sterling and exchanged in Hotel. I can't be bothered to do that this time, what rates are the ATM's giving as compared to exchange booths/bank? I'm guessing it won't be as favourable but you never know.....

re: money booths

You'd be surprized. Not sure what the rate is there at the moment - but the rate is quite competitive at the ATM's and certainly not much difference from the booths.

re: money booths

I personally never had any problem with the booths. I used then on 4 occasions, changing £50 -£100 Sterling. I always asked the direct question before handing the money over - .How many lev for £50? How many lev for £100? Always got a printed receipt. The rate w/c 24 Jan was between 2 - 2.07 lev =£1

I also used my debit card in the Rila cash machine (outside) and when checking my statements at home found i was getting 2.11 from my bank.

However, my son used a booth to change a crisp ...

However, my son used a booth to change a crisp new £20 note. Although the board said 2.05 and the bloke said the same - my son was only handed the equivalent of 1.67lev to £1. An arguement began and son threatened to call police. The bloke soon handed the £20 back and son went elsewhere.

re: money booths

use atm's all the time, can't see a problem, it's just like going to the bank in uk and you WILL be surprised with the exchange rate it is normally good. (hsbc is always a good rate). The rate in Samokov was 2.19 lev on sat 7th.
My experience of the booths is also not good. Used my maestro card around bulgaria with no problems.

re: money booths

Travelled all over the world and never take much with us, usually just enough for first day, but don't know why, we got told to take sterling and change over there last time we were in Boro, so reassuring to know I can just do my normal routine and use the atm once or twice during the week.

re: money booths

I was in Pamps last week and took lots of Lev's with us. Needed to change some Euro's. Did this in Sofia airport not a good rate and had to change a lot. Changed some in the booths no problems and a lot better rate than in the airport. The supermarket also had a good rate.
