BGN 140 M to Be Invested in Luxury Ski Resort in Bulgaria's Panichishte

The Bulgarian company Rila Sport is going to invest BGN 140 M in the construction of a five-star ski resort close to the village of Panichishte in the Rila Mountain.

The news was announced Tuesday by Slaveyko Staykov, the Executive Director of Rila Sport, lev.bg reported. Staykov's firm was assigned the realization of the project by the administration of the Sapareva Banya Municipality. The future ski resort is expected to be completed by 2016.

The total investments in the new resort might reach up to BGN 900 M. The project envisages the creation of about 100 km of ski tracks, plus snowboard parks and ski-running paths.

Staykov emphasized that the hotels would have no more than 10 000 beds, and that they would not be located on the territory of the Rila Mountain Natural Park.

"We aim to attract upper-class tourists; the resort will be managed by leading firms with appropriate experience", Staykov said.

The investors expect that the new resort would become one of Europe's top ten tourist destinations. About 10 000 workers will be hired for the construction, and once completed, the new complex is expected to employ permanently some 2 000 people.

The institutional procedures for the environmental assessment of the planned resort are currently under way.

The plans for the construction of a ski lift and a resort in the Rila Mountain, and especially close to the Seven Rila Lakes area, and the reports about the potential environmental destruction have triggered violent protests around Bulgaria by leading environmentalist and other NGOs, and by regular citizens.

These have been met with counter-rallies by the local people from the Sapareva Banya Municipality, who hope to profit from the development of their region, mainly because many of them own lands there.

'Brilliant' skiing will always be there BUT now and then, for couple of hours here and there and of course it depends what brilliant actually is.
I would say the winter BG season was with good snow cover (very unusual to stay more or less the whole of the 3 months)but lets not forget at the same time and the constant problems with closing for high winds the growing even further massive queues,the ridiculous high pricing for services in there (I hope you will agree with me on that and hope you squizzed
the maximum out of THE most expensive seasonal lift pass in the world-if not the most, somewhere in the top 3)
generally BG season was not a season to remember.Loads of problems even when some are trying to do a cover up.
at the same time for your information and I had brill ski season too (actually still continuing until end of May with short trips)with more than 60 days so far on skis .
sadly(?) only 10ish of those on BG snow so I am more than thrilled.
As for you if you have to be in Boro for the season you havent got a choice and you better make the best of it.
On the other hand -if you had the choice -you were going to be signing another song I am afraid.

Lets go back on the building in unappealing Samokov town.
Digging there for something is one thing, making it actually working is another.
Watch when they start bilding only flats on the same site to cash in on the hope that somehow people will flood in and forget about the gondola.

as for the actual opening of this gondola it will not enlarge the ski area because the purpose will be to move up souls from Samokov and with it to shift properties of course.
Just to refresh the data on this project:
--Samokov town as you know very well is 900m above the sea level so as Bansko on the base level the snow will be non existent doesnt matter what and gondolas starting at that level are not viable for the future anyway.
Runs are not going to get longer as well.
You better count on good progress on the quadchair on top for now but this is a small drop again because when there is a wind there wont be anything going up to take you there so the problem with overcrowding is very much still there and it will get worst.
Do you need more of that? I guess not at this moment.

I bed you are having the muddy site with few machinery in question as your main estate agent 'must-visit-atraction' in a hope somebody somehow will be hooked.

ok put you money where your mouth is.....you dont believe its happening/going to happen, i disagree, so how about putting up or shutting up, we'll select a neutral party from here to hold the money, say 100 quid, and ill bet you that there is a building on that site by next year, and a building for the gondola not a hotel/apartment block, and you seem to have missed the point, the gondolas to get people to the top, not to ski down to, and thats why its going up the valley, to avoid the winds....so come on then...
