"It is always the warm hearted locals and the fun of being in a ski resort that is welcoming and still honest about what it is"

Agreed !!!

What we want is for that to remain. I go back to visit friends who live and work there. The sad thing is they are being pushed out and the honesty is going with them.

The Bulgarian skiing experience has been eloquently captured by Pamporovo Pete elsewhere on this forum today. Read it. It is not as you say a winge, it is a celebration of all ...

re: prices

Agree with you Louise!!!!

People give out about paying 5 Lev for a pint of Larger, which is the equivalent of E2.60 here in Ireland.

You cant get a half pint of larger in Ireland for that!!!

A steak with with pepper sauce would set you back E30.00 here in Ireland, which is 60 Lev. 4 of us ate out last year in Bansko, including drinks for 60 Lev. If this 60 Lev doubled this year the meal would still be a bargain at 120 Lev!!!

re: prices

Both me n the girlfriend could not spen more than £80 each last year and she baught goggles and presents! We drank every night and ate out and drank every lunch as a bit of a guide.

And you are right about the warm hearted locals. I have had a text this morning from one of them about us arriving on Saturday. i hear from them at least once a month. If you treat the Bulgarians as people (I have seen some that dont) you will find just how great they are!

re: prices

Fluter I have read Pamporovo Pete's post earlier today and I agree totally he has eloquently captured the feeling that is developed by the Bulgarian ski experiance. What I object to are the people who come on here moaning about the cost of a pint of beer or the price of a hot chocolate. Bulgaria still represents very good value for money. These are the type of moaning people I do not want to bump in to on the slopes. I would be happy if they went to the Alps or the States and stayed there ...

Leaving the Bulgarian slopes and resorts to people who appritiate them!
And please stop posting boring posts about prices in Bulgarian resorts!!

re: prices

Interesting point about value for money - it doesn't matter if the beer is 50p a pint if the service is terrible, there is no snow and the pistes are badly maintained. You say people shouldn't winge (I thought that was what fora were all about but still) because beer is half the price of France - well the skiing is a fraction of the quality of France as well. So it doesn't represent value for money. I've just had 5 days in Bansko and didn't get away with less than 100 leva (50 pounds) a ...

So it doesn't represent value for money. I've just had 5 days in Bansko and didn't get away with less than 100 leva (50 pounds) a day simply for food and drink. And for that I got less than a dozen pistes, badly maintained with rocks and trees in them, a 40 minute wait for the gondola and packed with other skiers. I'm off to France on the weekend so we'll see how that compares, but I'll have five times the amount of pistes so I wonder if it'll cost me five times as much....

Jonone

You may find it boring but if you look at the post "who will pre book pamps next year" it is important.

I seldom had to queue for lifts elsewhere in Europe and the skiing is out of this world by comparison. Having been an annual pilgrim to Pamporovo for almost 20 years I care.

Like Mat, the point we are trying to make is that the BALANCE is wrong. Snow conditions are a major factor but we had bad years in the past. One week towards the end of the 80s there was no skiing ...

Like Mat, the point we are trying to make is that the BALANCE is wrong. Snow conditions are a major factor but we had bad years in the past. One week towards the end of the 80s there was no skiing possible but the other factors like true Bulgarian hospitality made up for it at least in part.

Talk to any ski instructor in Pamporovo who has been there from the start and they will tell you that.

You can argue all you want... the fact is that tourists are not coming back. The reason for this thread is to try and discuss why. So if you are bored with what so many people are saying then ignore them. They will go away.

re: prices

Well if you're in Pamporovo next week you will. The sad thing is we are becoming a dying breed ie people who like Pamporovo and keep coming back.

One should never ask a question if you don't want to hear the answer. Galina has asked and while I don't like to hear some of the comments we all have to listen.

Everyone going there is a customer and customer satisfaction is what brings back repeat custom.

re: prices

I am not sure I asked a question Fluter.

I to care what happens to the Bulgarian ski resorts, however I do not winge about prices on this board. Firstly it is boring and secondly the people who intend traveling to Bugaria read this site. When they read all the negativity that some people write I am sure it puts people off booking. What do you think happens to bookings in the resorts then Fluter? Its not rocket science!!

The people who moan should not travel to Bulgaria, they should stay at home and leave the resort to positive people who will enjoy thier visits. The happier people are the better reviews will be and the better future business will develop.
The resorts are going through a natural cycle, that all holiday destinations go through. I for one will be happier when I do not have to share my skiing holiday with misirable tourist who moan and winge and spoil other peoples enjoyment.

If you do not bring a positive attitude to the resort, then say at home in your arm chair.

re: prices

Good point and well made. I always look forward to returning to Pamporovo and have done for twenty years. I have also had the priviledge of introducing over 500 others to the resort who have come with me.

A reputation is not built and destroyed on this site. We can't silence people who want to state an opinion that we disagree with. I wish people were not saying the things they are. Everyone has to move with the times but when you bring about change you make sure you don't destroy ...

So...lets monitor the comments, see what can be done and help make things better. Every year I make films to promote Pamporovo to encourage people to go. An additional 70 next monyh! BUT if their experiences do not live up to their expectations then i am in trouble too.
