Never in Bansko. As I understood from the net:pistes are as 10 km from hotels in town. There is one gondola lift taking people up to pistes. I am suspicious...should be long queues morning. Sbody has expierience? Are there hotels just ski out-ski in?
No ski in ski out hotels I am afraid. 10km is a little of the mark. The gondola is in town and takes you to the ski area in approx 15 mins. Ques are worse in scholl holidays.
We used to get to the gondla around 8.15 to 8.30 for when it opens never qued. I have heard the ques can be bad from 9.30 on wards because people start ski school at 10. my advice is go up early, if your in ski school have a coffee and wait for it to start.
The que system was a lot better orgainised last year, when we went in 2005 it was a night mare there was no system in place. So much better now.
another tip is to avoid sundays or better still do your travelling on a sunday, you can buy you pass after 4:00pm, I think, for the next day or week, sort your skis out and enjoy quiet slopes for your first day on the Sunday. i've only queued a few times and generally avoid getting to lift at 9:00, when so many of the buses arrive.
Its a little more than 10kms actually - From the town to the Vihren hut above the gondola is a little over 20kms by (winding) road and the gondola takes 20-25 mins. Half term week is a nightmare with queues of up to 2 hours at the gondola so go either late or early. There are also queues to download later in the season when the ski road melts. But generally its not too bad. As noted better queue management would help as the gondola holds 8 but almost always goes with only 6 and there are ...

Kim, if you get up that late then you miss out on that great feeling of skiing all those fresh tracks!! In my book there is very little that can beat the feeling of getting of the chairlift and looking down a slope knowing that I will be the first to ski it that day and then looking back up the slope at my neatly carved turns in the snow. Love it!
You can easily have some late starts and some early starts.
Remember ski school starts @10am from the Base station to the end of the 8 seater its 25mins.
Last year one day we were a group 4 and we got up to the ski station at 10am so was really ready to go then nightmare as my Mrs put on her ski the boot clip snapped. We tried with instructors etc to screw it back together but to no avail after 20mins of trying. So me & my Mrs went back down got to the shop and then back on the lift... ...
