re: BOROVETS UPDATE - 27TH JAN

Hi All,

Sorry, was really busy yesterday and no time to post but there was nothing new to write about... It is still cold here - circa -12 but still no snow - hence I said earlier in the week about 'waiting to see' as snow was promised yesterday / today but still nothing yet.... There is plenty of snow however on Rila / Yastrebets as the snow cannons are put to work every night and are working today as well - the conditions on these slopes are excellent and not icy at all today.

Sorry, was really busy yesterday and no time to post but there was nothing new to write about... There is plenty of snow however on Rila / Yastrebets as the snow cannons are put to work every night and are working today as well - the conditions on these slopes are excellent and not icy at all today.

So...to summarise....
Rila nursery still closed - as lift still not fixed -
Yastrebets 2 & 3 open and excellent conditions
Gondola open and run down to Yastrebets is much better
Iglika and yanakiev (Rotata) drags open
Rila 4 man chair open - Martinovi 2 and 3 (both red) skiiable, - 'good' conditions at the moment
Sitnyakovo Express is open for walkers only now - they have put a 'closed sign' there but people are still skiing down it - it is not recommended to use it as the conditions are terrible...The run at the top of the Express though is in very good condition.
All Markudjik slopes are still closed...
Mussala path still closed but lots of people are skiing it anyway - top bit is good, bottom is poor so take care and don't use your own ski's!
Nursery at top of the gondola is open.

Kas,

What do you think it is going to be like next week?

re: BOROVETS UPDATE - 27TH JAN

Hi Ben,

I'm rubbish at the 'predicting' bit...but I'll give it a go. If the temps remain the same, then the snow cannons will stay on and Rila / Yastrebets slopes will be absolutely fine and everyone will get a good week of skiing in. We do however need a massive dump of snow to get the Markudjik slopes / rest of the resort open. Conditions are much better than they were 4 or 5 weeks ago, but it's simply that the number of runs are limited due to the number of snow cannons....

Kas,

These other places that you mention, are they far from the Flora?

re: BOROVETS UPDATE - 27TH JAN

Sorry Kas,

Not been before so not sure of the set up or locations. What i mean is, am i going to have to travel far from the Flora Hotel to get some skiing. And places like Rila / Yastrebets which have the cannons?

Ben

No - Flora apartments are opposite the Rila slopes - you will need to just walk over the road and put your ski's on!! You will start on the rotata (green) and from there can just ski across the bottom of the slopes to the Rila 4 man chair.
Alternatively, you need to walk down the road, approx 3 or 4 mins from the apartments to the gondola. Take the gondola up, ski down from the top and then you are on the yastrebets runs. You can actually ski the back way from the Flora apartments to the ...

Alternatively, you need to walk down the road, approx 3 or 4 mins from the apartments to the gondola. Take the gondola up, ski down from the top and then you are on the yastrebets runs. You can actually ski the back way from the Flora apartments to the gondola as well, but it's a tiny 'track' not piste and so far this season it has been un-skiable due to not enough snow.
So...in essence the most you have to walk to get on a lift is about 4minutes...!

Hi

It's still broken at the moment - one of the parts 'burnt out'. they said it would take about 10 days, which was just over a week ago... When the other half rings later, i will ask him to ring the operator to see if there is any update, but I wouldn't hold your breath...!!!
