Good points - food was good (didn't expect it to be so good after reading reports on board). we hardly ate out at all - lots of choices and even my two fussy teenagers could find something to eat. just back from Samokov.

Breakfasts particularly good. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable. Very warm so we slept with balcony door open and it was fine. Bad points - very popular with smokers ie room and public areas very smoky. Even though we aired the room every day we had to open the windows as soon as we got back in the afternoon. apparently it's a Russian custom to smoke heavily during every meal - not nice with a hangover at breakfast! It's also very noisy- our room was to the front and the Crazy Frog and disco music goes on until 5.30am. the traffic starts at 6! there were also fireworks going off all night - this might be because it was New year week. My two girls slept with their MPV3 players in but it kept me awake.
We didn't try the pool - too busy with skiing, boarding and bum boarding. The slopes are absolutely fantastic - we were lucky with perfect conditions. take note of when the lifts close for maintenance - that influences where will be busy.
We had a fab holiday and would probably go back. It's not Austria or France but the trip itself is a lot cheaper, and once you're there everything is a fraction of the price.
Stayed at Samakov last year and are going again on 15th Jan. Food was great even my fussy teenager found plenty to eat. There's plenty of choice for everybody.
