A word of warning if you plan to ski the amazing recent snow in Pamporovo. I just wanted to let people know to keep your receipt when you pay for your skipass. Without this the operators will not return your deposit even though you have a perfectly valid ticket. This was only signposted (last weekend) at some ticket booths and was not made clear at the time of purchase. This does not happen in other resorts in Bulgaria or other countries and seems to be just another way of ripping skiers off. I really can't see any logic in pissing off otherwise contented skiers by refusing to give the refund when they present perfectly valid tickets. What do I now do with the defunct tickets? The management should be ashamed to treat locals and tourists like this.
By the way, is it legal to charge different ski prices on the basis of nationality? I'm not sure the EU would agree with this!
I don't know about all the resorts but one of the reasons for the two different prices is because the companies couldn't afford to pay the workers when the Gondolas and Ski lifts were being built and as a thank you for the faith the people had in this venture they got a cheaper lift pass.
As for the the refund on the deposit did you bring this up with your tour rep at the time or before you left? Is it a lot of money or just the principle that has p'ed you off?
As has been said a million times on this board buy your pass before you go then you would not have any problems and you would have saved money. As for overcharging tourists it happens in every county in the world. Have a coffee in St Marks square venice or a beer in a New York Hotel. I think you will find it is also common practice for locals to pay less at any ski resort in the world it is only fare as they do live there.
I think the principle is what I am talking about here, not the money. My ticket is proof enough of purchase, especially when I have them for my family also. I was travelling independently so the tour rep idea is not applicable.
I'm not too sure about the good faith stuff. All three major resorts in Bulgaria do the same with the foreigner price being about double the Bulgarian. I'm sure the big developers at Bansko had loads to pay their workers.
Or you could compare it to Florida!! Why well Florida residents get discount at all the attractions is that fare? Well I think so and consider you earn more in a week than most Bulgarians do in a month and the lift pass aint that high a price I cant see the problem.
I would be most greateful if you could let me know how to go about purchasing a ski pas before traveling to Bulgaria, namely Borovets. My tour operator Ingams does not offer it, and I've phoned and emailed countles agences here in Britain and Bulgaria to no avail.
Yes they sure do as I booked with them. If you have booked a last minute deal they may not be able to supply you one. If so do a search on here using above link for Borovets lift pass contact details have been posted many times so you should be able to sort yourself out.
