I wonder if they would put you on there buses? There are always seats free but perhaps they cant for insurance purposes. I guess what is official practice and what happens in reality are two different things. Taxi could be expensive.
A return taxi is between 120 -140 euro's return, this is a pretty standard price. You may be able to negotiate it down slightly if you get a taxi at the airport but this depends whether they want a 7 hour drive (usually 3+ hours in the winter) so at the airport expect to pay 50 - 70 euros for a single trip
This may seem steep but fuel is governed by world prices and it is a 360 km journey for a taxi!!!

You can even use the bus, take only a taxi from the airport to the central busstation and check out your arrivaltime in Sofia so you can find out which bus you can get.Everyday a bus leaves Sofia at 7:30, 8:30,14:00 and 13.15 but not on sunday.
