I began learning from my friend who is married to a Bulgarian, they have a young daughter so use small phrases like chakimauko (wait a minute) when they talk to her in the UK. from there I try to pick up the basics each time I visit and this visit I found myself able to explain quite a lot in Bulgarian.... I impressed myself, plus you get the respect of the locals if you can at least say hello and thankyou - I also got discount in a lot of shops for knowing the languageL:}}}}
