If you take up more than 1 seat, then you should have to pay for it - I wouldn't like to be squashed for hours. Many times been the jam in between 2 muckle big rolls flying the "red eye" to London and it's not fun!! Look at the lady a few years ago who had to share her seat with an obese person and sustained nerve damage ( think to her neck or shoulder.) So yes, charge them extra.
Fatties should be paying the person in the next seat as it is their space they are using up. Airline seats are cramped enough (I'm 6'5" and I struggle to get my legs in) without a chubster overspilling into my seat space. I'm paying for all of that seat space.
I love the idea of an overall weight limit although I couldn't be 7st if I tried without removing limbs and that would make my boarding trickier.

Maybe airlines could intoduce another extra fee called Excess Blubbage for transporting that extra weight. If they do, It's my idea and I want the royalties
A couple of years ago I flew from Manchester to Rome, The guy sat next to my girlfriend had lifted the arm between the seats up and was occupying about 30% of my girlfriends seat. My girlfriend was very uncomfortable but didn't want to offend the guy. Really it was a good job it wasn't me in that seat as I would have put the arm back down and he would have been stuffed, literally! Anyway halfway through the flight the attendant asked him if he would like to move to the front where there ...

Really it was a good job it wasn't me in that seat as I would have put the arm back down and he would have been stuffed, literally! Anyway halfway through the flight the attendant asked him if he would like to move to the front where there was more room. His response was "Do I have to pay" she said no, and he moved. What I concluded from this was that he was more than happy to inconvenience the passenger to his side rather than pay any extra!
Maybe the extra charge/eatra seat rule should apply if you are over a certain BMI - that way large boned /heavy /tall people who naturally weigh more are not discriminated against, but fat greedy people are. Apologies to anyone who is fat through no fault of their own
Excess blubbage - I absolutely love it!
Caz
They should have blubby alarms at airports. If th BMI is over the top, an alarm goes off and makes them wait at the end of the queue until everybody flying is asked the questions - has any body other than yourselves tampered with this luggage ? How many pieces of luggage in the party ? - Do you want a fatty overspilling onto you on the plane ? When everybody says no, then bye bye mr or mrs fatty - cos we did it not the airplane company !!!

Taking it a bit further down the line - what about ski and board hire - wear and tear ? The last board I hired had 2 holes in it with no explanation at all - but I knew.
I had to pay the same as everyone else. It's not fait - me being all skinny and that !!! Methinks more trouble now !!!
