re: what do i need to board??

Helmets are optional, but a lot more people are wearing them.

The greatest fear on a slope for me is that someone wearing a helmet crashes into me. In my opinion you will be seriously injured if not killed.

A good waterproof & warm pants is essential, as you will spend 95% of your time sitting on your posterior!!!!

`what do i need to board ??'
Im aching to..... i mustn't....... help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, a helmet is a must, yes, you will look a goon, even better if you get full armour, to enjoy the freedom of boarding, wrist protectors, spine plate, lower spine protection, rib and hip panels, knee and elbow pads.... is this starting to sound fun ???? is ...

Of course, the obligatory baggy trousers with crutch near knees, the oversize jacket (to cover armour), massive gauntlet style gloves, v expensive goggles (Smith, Vaurnet, etc)... accepting that all the gear must at least carry a `Burton' label, other brands more exclusive better accepted....
The growing of dreadlocks is mandatory now, with the added bonus of being able to thread them through your helmet, for an overall look Razz

There, decent advice.... and not a hint of sarcasm... Wink Im proud of myself hehehehehe

re: what do i need to board??

If all you are plannin on doin is riding up and down hills I think you really only need some impact shorts. If you are learning you will fall on your bum quite a bit sothey are wl worth the investment.

I have wrist guards also and don't wear a helmet although I am considering it this year. Spine protection and body armour would be good if you start doing some free style but I would imagine that is unlikley if it's your first time.

You I used to ski and last year was my first time ...

re: what do i need to board??

A helmet is a must, knee pads are handy as you may spend a fair bit of time falling over. Any other equipment is the same as for skiing - jacket, pants, thermals, socks, fleeces, tshirts, waterproof gloves, goggles. Optional extras are a hipflask, handwarmers, neck warmer and a good supply of Mars bars.

Me and my gf went to borovets last year about the same time, first time boarders too and had the best week of our lives! We only wore knee pads in terms of armour and both regretted not wearing padded shorts/arse protectors as we had some pretty nasty falls and both had sore coccyx's for monhts after! I def reccommend the shorts. We didnt wear helmets, some were but tended to be the better boarders who were flying past us! Try the night skiing, we did on our last day and it was awesome, the ...

Very Happy
