when to go

I am thinking of going to bulgaria with 2 kids aged 14 and 10 to ski for the very first time.
Which is the best place to go? Bansko or borovets.
Also when is the best time to go for guaranteed snow?
thanks

Hi Freddie, I would chose Banska and late Feb would be best. Good luck!

Why are you not considering Pamporovo Freddie? Great for youngsters and great for beginners.

The snow season seems to have moved over the past few years in all Bulgarian resorts and anytime before late January is risky. Anytime in Feb or March have seen better conditions certainly over the past couple of years.

Pete.

re: when to go

Thanks Judge and Pete,

To be honest I have no clue as never been ski-ing before apart from the indoor slopes for practice. If Pamporovo is good for kids then I'd definitely consider it as partying into the night is not an option.
Late Feb it is!

Thank you

re: when to go

Late Feb in Bansko is the mens world cup, combined slalom and G slalom... It is going to be very busy and access to the mountain may be difficult because of queuing... Be a great event though Razz

Freddie - we loved Bansko and it was my kids(and my) first time. The quality of accommodation is brilliant - we loved everything! My eldest daughter had skiing lessons booked through a guy who I found on this site. We bought all the ski clothes on eBay to save us loads of money! The gondola is great fun (even in the wind). I am so taken by Bansko that I am forcing hubby to take me there this weekend (it's a 6hr car journey for us) I would HIGHLY recommend Bansko especially with kids the age ...

I could go on and on singing it's praises!

Also if you are looking for somewhere to rent - I would advise getting a private apartment in a complex - lots of English own places there - and the prices are very reasonable - also you can cook if it turns out you (or kids) do not like the food there!

Hi Freddie

I have to recommend Borovets, the best thing about Boro is that you can ski into resort. We took our kids 2 years ago the same age as yours. They went to ski school with Borosport, which unlike most ski resorts gives lessons all day till about 3.30.

My kids loved the indepence of buying their own lunch!!

At the end of the day we could all meet up, the kids carried on skiing or went on the tobogans and the adults can sit outside the bars and restaurants at the sides of the ...

re: when to go

Thanks all,

It has been decided that it's going to be feb half term. I was wondering if 4 days would be ok to go? Is that too short? It's our first time, and I'm thinking it may be good taster and then decide if it's for us.
I like the idea of apartments....thanks Jane and Hilly.
