Bansko will be around for the long term, more than $30 million dollars have been invested in to the resort. They are hosting the FIS womens Donwhill & Super G next in Feb/Mar & they do have permission to open a 2nd gondola (when thats the big question!!!) Over the next few years Bansko will rise as the top ski destination in Bulgaria if not Eastern Europe. Not forgetting that Bansko becomes a wonderful Lakes & Mountain destination in the Summer.

Just my opinion as a bansko lover Wink

Firstly to answer the questions.
1 yes i do earn more money than when i first started working
2.yes it could be percieved as greed. As could posting on an internet forum with a NHS e mail address at the cost of the taxpayer !

You can apply that logic to all aspects of life. the oppurtunity cost of one action could impact upon the other. Rather simplistic i know.

You can apply that logic to all aspects of life. the oppurtunity cost of one action could impact upon the other. Rather simplistic i know.

The reality is that a large percentage of those who waded into the property markets in Bulgaria, did so because of what they percieved as a investment oppurtunity. As with all investments the ambition and incentive is to increase in value the amount invested. Many thought it was money for old rope. A sure thing. IMO for a large percentage it was greed. People bought off plan, without even travelling to Bulgaria, in the hope of the quick buck.

Now you can butter it up as many ways as you want but it is the reality that many ( not all )got their fingers burnt ( or are in the process of being burnt) largely as a result of greed.

Life is full of lessons and for a good few people, even on this forum, the events of the last 2 years has taught them a major one. Theres no shame in it, its human nature.

Some will be brave enough to admit it, others will find it offensive. I have often recieved flak before, however i stand by my convictions that greed has been a major contributory factor in the financial difficulties that many now face.

I don't think so, the internet conection is a set cost no matter how much it is used and I am posting at lunch/break time when I am not getting paid.

I just think you were a bit harsh I know people have lost out trying to make a quick buck and they certainly know that to. The original post was asking for advice and not to have it their faces rubbed in it.

Im an investor too. The thing is for the Pirin Golf Im not planning on renting it out at all, its going to be used by me & my family/friends only. I'm going to have good kit in there and clearly take good care of it. I do not want to have restricted times as to when i can use my place &/or the hassle of sorting out any repair issues.

So its a long term holiday home I like Bansko I like the area I like the food. I'm enjoying the skiing and IF I have a family it will be ideal for them to learn on. I will at some point have an Austrian ski holiday many years in the future when were good enough at skiing red runs all day long.

I see it as a ski HOLIDAY not a SKI holiday. I'll never be the one who is waiting at the gondela 8am I'll go up 9.30/10.30am but I'll stay up there until 5pm then have drinks in the apres ski bars. Relax sauna - food beers.

Anyway back on topic property is a long term investment as alwyas so your looking at upwards of 10 years. Will it be different then? Who knows really. There has been talk about the new airport/changing an airport from milatry use to civilian use which is 25mins drive from bansko that will make a big difference.

Balkanstroy are going to be building a new ski piste section about 6-9km away from bansko not far from Pirin Golf country club. Likewise the other side of the Valley there is other pistes the old russian ones this can easily be expanded. Also Dobrinishde are planning Pistes.

So that all is clearly good news - clearly will it all go ahead and how long will it take is the key question.

Provided you have bought in a good complex/resort your going to be ahead of the rest which is always important in any investment - think of it like a job interview what makes you stand out over the others? provided you chose the best you could afford/within your set budget you should be fine.

I bought in Pirin Golf before it even started breaking ground so only saw Katarina Spa and was blown away with that - but thats 4 star Pirin golf is 5 star and Ive seen it a few weeks ago and its stunning. Im looking forward to spending many holidays relaxing in that complex & of course going into the town too.

re: Anyone with positive long term hopes for Bansko

clearly it may not go ahead as many of these 'new' developments announced by Balkanstroy are in the national park and were recently rejected by the ministry of environment - doesn't stop Balkanstroy telling everyone they will in an attempt to sell more properties.... Pirin golf is a beautiful resort - just a shame they built so many apartments for one course.

I also considered buying a property 2 years ago and thank god I did not do that.
Initially, all seemed very good, good nature and so on, but it became simply too overcrowded there, too many new buildings, too much dust and absolutely no roads, footpaths and so on Sad I'm still missing the idea of this process over there, probably all is about the money Bulgarians earn on us. If I had a property there, I should be trying to sell it so far.
Good luck.

re: Anyone with positive long term hopes for Bansko

so it looks like the senses have come back to you all.
Bansko is heading for a total disaster.
Dead end:
Too many hotels/beds,
not enough ski runs,
not possible to make new ones as the national parks areas restricting it.
fading interest in the place the country as a whole etc.
Somewhere somebody above on this topic-
Bansko will turn to be not a proper SKI holiday destination, not proper ski HOLIDAY ,but only just holiday somewhere.

To all of the people who bought very early- one question:

Where were you all 2-3 years ago? Why didnt you shifted the place and cash in then when looking that is not going as planned rather than complaining now?
Now it is too late. You are stuck with it and try to make the most out of it!
As for WC mens alpine in 2011.Wait and see, wait and see.Dont thing it will happen or change anything.
Look at this year decision to OPEN EARLY-COMPLETE AND UTTER DISASTER-CRY FOR HELP WHICH NO ONE HEARS! Somebody in the managment in the resort is with brain halucinations and COMPLETELY out of touch.
No resort in the world will do this type of thing without proper consideration and need and even then probably will stick to the more realistic opening just before Xmas.
Bansko is a past for me. Very Happy Very Happy
i know it it difficult to find GOOD NEWS for Bansko-but don't give up.Look hard and you will find them somewhere in the future.

re: Anyone with positive long term hopes for Bansko

If Bansko (is a past for you ) then what are you still on here for then. Does it make you feel good to talk about ALL the negatives. Go to some other alpineski.com and slag them off for the 180 euro plus ski passes. Of course everyone has the right to post , but being so negative , why be on here ?Bansko will be fine , we all know it will take a couple of years to sort out the infrastructure etc but I for one can live with that.

Have a good life.
