Anyone with positive long term hopes for Bansko

I understand all the negativity about Bansko. As an owner/investor myself, who initially invested early 2005 when there was nothing but fields by the Gondola (with the exception of the Happy End and Grand Arena) i had really good vibes about the place. On my trip the year after and the year after that i couldn't beleive why they would throw so many hotels/apartment complex's up.

I suppose in one way the recent problems of Bansko has put and end to end more buildings being started.

Has anyone any good thoughts about the long term future for Bansko. I imagine a lot of people reading this thinking there is no hope and i appreciate that. But would like to hear any positive comments.

I read on this website that in 2011 the Mens Super G will be from Bansko - that has got to mean something wouldn't you think?

Finally - just a thought. If all the developments that are half finished or half sold out, merged with these developments that have sales but not yet started building - wouldn't it make sense to stop them from starting the building and transfer the sales to the other half completed buildings - then wouldn't that make sense?? Easier said than done i know!!

Depends if they open a lot more pistes. This year and probably better next year will see whether anyone is actually using all those apartments - if the pistes are rammed I think the place is finished

Yes. Over the long term i would hope that the main street and footpaths are repaired. That will be a positive.

As for the rest , draw a line under it and put it down to a bad experience ,and remember to to be so greedy in the future !

Why is investing in a property abroad classed as being greedy?

If someone had said stick your money in a high interest account earning 10% a year - i would have done so - would that be greedy also?

The fact that most investors - especially the early ones that bought in Bansko - had no reason to believe then that the muncipality would build thousands of additional rooms. The talk then was of second Goondola's, increasing the ski area to 260km, bidding for the 2014 Winter olympics etc ...

The talk then was of second Goondola's, increasing the ski area to 260km, bidding for the 2014 Winter olympics etc which sounds like a reasonable investment. Far from being greedy.

Cant help but think that all those who now post about investers being greedy are really clever after the event. In hindsight i wish i hadn't now invested. At the time the reward far outweighed the risks. That isn't greedy, that is just business.

Do you earn the same amount of money now compared to when you first started work, is that not greed????????????

Paying for ski holidays when you could donate the money to sick or dieing children, is that not greed?????????

That is not greed you muppet !!
Almost every decision that you make in life you make a consious or subconcious cost/benefit or risk/reward decision. i.e i wouldn't attempt to cross a motorway to get to the supermarket on the other side that is selling bread cheaper - because of the risk of getting knocked over!!

If i had put my money in an isa (that would have probably now halved in value) would you say that is being greedy? I made a decision that my money would be better invested in ...

If i had put my money in an isa (that would have probably now halved in value) would you say that is being greedy? I made a decision that my money would be better invested in property than invested in a stock market tracker, Based on the facts i had available at that time.

Anyway ... the point of the original question was not about greedy investors - it was about any positive longterm views on Bansko.
