I don't think motorway will ever happen.
There are Rumours about connecting existing motorway from Ihtiman direct to the west via Samokov but near Klisura gourge it is very tricky terrain and with money from EU stopped who knows?
Lets hope this will happen.
For now I count on the new lift on top and maybe some more going west into Beli Iskar in the next few years but in the current situation maybe this will be pushed further into the future.
Still Borovets is the best resort in BG by ...

The montain is the most interesting with the most lakes and rivers ,the close proximity to the capital plus lakes, Monasteries etc makes this top location even when the infrastructure or the lift facilities are not on the same level yet.
I actually look more into some projects west of Borovets which can make a huge difference:
Maliovitsa,Govedarci , Mala Tsurkva and further into Kabul-Seven Lakes-Panichishte project and the idea of connecting all those.This seems more likely.
1.Land is already all packaged and ready.2.facilities were bought all together(Maliovitsa and Govedarci) and additional terrain have been made available so keep fingers cross this end something nice to come very soon.
Potential is HUGE.
Not crowded environment,
the snowiest mountain in Bulgaria (West Rila)
very interesting(probably the most picturesque region in BG) area for summer tourism as well,
good altitude and massive area with over 2000m above the sea level.
So watch this space Ski and Mountain Lovers for some very good news indeed.very soon.
