re: BULGARIA - YOU NEED TO LISTEN

I don't understand the need to force your views down everyones throats mikey.
I have returned from my first skiing holiday in Boro a couple of weeks ago. I didn't find anything terrible to complain about. Myself and my partner had an excellent time met some great people and will return in the future.
We didn't find it expensive and didn't really spend that much money.
Can i also say that before we went Borogirl and several others from this site gave good advice about alot of things ...

I don't see a problem with voicing your opinion but you do seem to go a little OTT!!!

Do not go, you can get deals to the Alps for same price and you get much better snow. While all the snow is melting in bulgaria right now, the Alps have been getting dumped on for the last two weeks and on into next week. The same happened last year so not all of europe had a bad season last year. I think Pete works for the Bulgarian tourist board. I spent first week of March in Borovets and have to say it was the worst, most depressing week, what a waste of money. Package holiday companies ...

re: BULGARIA - YOU NEED TO LISTEN

I love Bulgaria .... I'm going back next year again ... yes there are changes .... but if you are stupid enough to yearn for the "Good Old Days" in front of a Bulgarian, don't be surprised if he replies.."Good for who!"

I hope you all keep to your promise of going to France or the like .... will keep down the lift queues.

Beautiful place, great people.... I go for more than just the skiing!

regards

Woodsy

Here we go again - more stupid wild allegations about me working for the Bulgarian Tourist board. Just because somebody did not enjoy their holiday. Maybe you should read my first post at the top of this subject Steve.

Well - apart from being a consulant with Toyota that takes me all over England, and trying to keep an eye on this board 24/7 - I'm now also President of Bulgaria. (but only at weekends Wink)

After sking Borovets for several years, I have watched the decline that the original poster describes here.
I have friends in BG, and own an old house close to Borovets. For this reason and this reason only I will be back next year but unless improvements take place and attitudes of most locals change then it will probably be my last visit to borovets.
Borogirl...child friendly?? You're having a tin bath!!
Pushing my precious baby up the main drag getting soaked by the Bulgarian idiot ...

Pushing my precious baby up the main drag getting soaked by the Bulgarian idiot drivers hurtling past showering us in mud....then later in the week clouds of dust....I hardly call that child friendly! Theres no pavement to walk on because it's become the taxi rank! The taxi drivers try to charge double what they should, and when i needed a taxi i called one I know from a nearby village and he charges half what the Borovets taxis wanted. You can't get a push chair into most of the shops either. Sorry, but it must be a long time since you had a small child. The place is a nightmare for those with small children. Be warned!

re: BULGARIA - YOU NEED TO LISTEN

I just do not understand why anyone would want all this hassle on a holiday. I want to relax on a holiday, not worry whether I will be conned by some currency exchange man or whether I will be drugged and robbed at some bar or constantly watch the change that waiters give back to me. I do not want to have to a place three times or read millions of postings on a discussion forum like in order to learn which are the safe places to go to and what to avoid. It may have been alright to put up ...

I do not want to have to a place three times or read millions of postings on a discussion forum like in order to learn which are the safe places to go to and what to avoid. It may have been alright to put up with such things in the past when Bulgaria was dirt cheap, for those could not afford to go to established skiing destinations (and there is nothing wrong or embarrasing about not being loaded), but now, when prices in Bulgaria are starting to reach those in many European destinations, why go there? I mean, you go to resorts in Austria nowadays where you can walk into a proper, picturesque restaurant high on the slopes, not some corrugated iron shack, with properly maintained and cleaned toilets and pay no more than €15-20 for a nice meal (not just some pizza) with a drink, desert, etc. Why choose Bulgaria in that case? Somebody help me, maybe I am stupid but I just do not get it...
