I just heard that the mens slalom has been confirmed 22-23 Jan 2010 in Bansko... we're there from 17th for the week... This yr Tomba was closed for a few days in January in preparation for March so is it pretty much guaranteed that this coming season we won't get to ski tomba???
I guess also that it will be extremely busy on our final day skiing which will be 22nd...
If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated.
Tomba will be closed. Bansko (ulen), are more intersted in satisfying the FIS then there valued clients.
It is ridiculous that such a small resort can close so many runs. For such long periods to accommodate races, and at the same time not ruduce the price of the lift passes!
Half the runs ??? Won't be able to ski Tomba all season ??? Last season Tomba was closed in January in preparation for March ??? God almighty.......................
Last season was a Womans World Cup downhill, the preparation was totally differant to what would be required in a slalom, the watering of the course, the massive amount of snow pushed up to form the first corner as they dropped into Tomba and the need for the length of course...
If it will put these scaremonger reactions ...

If it will put these scaremonger reactions to rest, 9A, the steep run off Tomba is being worked on as we speak, groundworks with new drainage have been completed on the top half and the installation of a new cannon, the bottom half continues...
This was always the venue for any slalom, as it is steeper than black 9, my guess is this will be utilised for the events...
If people cannot see what benefits an FIS event brings to a resort in the way of exposure, advertising and ongoing confidence, then i give up
The FIS events do not benefit me at all in the short term, but they definately benefit Bansko long term with a higher likelyhood of skiing investment and improvement in the mountain infrastructure, and in that we all should see benefits, including visiting skiers like you Mat...
You're both right to a large extent but i would definately change my dates if i was going in the weeks before or during the comp. I'm happy to see bansko being promoted with these high profile events, but not if it's going to have a negative effect on skiing while i'm there. At the moment bansko isn't big enough to satisfy the needs of people on holiday while preparing for and holding these events.
Does anyone know if Tomba and surrounding ski runs will be open to the public imeadiatley after the competition? IE next day or will they need to keep them closed whilst getting ready for public use?
I want to book a ski trip so would like to have use of all facilities. Any ideas when all will be re-opened?
Last year when the ladies races were on the runs opened more or less straight away. Mind you the had a good covering of fresh snow. Ulen should make more of an effort to keep as many of the other pistes open leading up to the event, some of them had plenty of snow on but the didn't bother to piste them.
To much snow !!! god, its hell
They rarely piste fresh snow especially if more is forecast and if it is the consistancy of last seasons heavy falls. It is not a case of the pisteurs not bothering... They also will never piste in the day due to the dangers to skiers, unless they close the piste... God forbid that they might do that...
