Do you think it makes a difference if the town has snow in it or not for people to like better, two years ago when i was in bansko the town had snow and it was great last year due to the rubbish amount of snow it was all wet and muddy and it did look dirty, but hey look past the building work the mud cover it in snow and you have a charming town
Staying at the Kempinski, not the same week as you though, read all posts with the posh(!) guy. Can't wait stayed at the one in Berlin and it was fantasic.
Sorry read wrong name, I always read who writes what, but don't always read in right order or go back and re-read. Can I askk you a question about the gondola? Everyone is mentioning queueing times, is this just early when everyone is going up the mountain for lessons, and to the ski area up at the top of the mountain (just going off the piste map) orare there queues all day?
It was busy all the time I was there 27th dec - 5th Jan due to new year holidays and the good fall of snow over new year. If you are there at 0815 no problem then you can say for every minute later you will add 2 minutes to you waiting time.
The half day passes start at 1230 which is another busy time. The queuing was the worst I have seen in Bansko in 7 visits but I never queued longer than 30 mins. At some times of the day after 11 i didn't queue at all.

Once up the gondola hardly any queuing time at all.
I think now that the new year rush is over the queues will subside.
Thanks for the info. Didn't know about half day passes. Because we aren't going in a ski school thought we could have a lie in and hit the slopes about 10.00 am, thinking gondola would be quiet by then. Then again as I said 10 meteres would do I could just walk up a little bit, board down, fall & repeat all day long.
Did you have a good time at New Year? I bet it was fantastic being away. I am a nurse so never get to go away at Christmas or New Year. I would be in absolute heaven to be ...

Did you have a good time at New Year? I bet it was fantastic being away. I am a nurse so never get to go away at Christmas or New Year. I would be in absolute heaven to be off work & playing in the snow. What was it that you didn't like about Pamporovo compared to Bansko?
like I said it should have calmed down by now so you should be fine at 10. New year was fantastic I was there with 3 nurses (honest)
The skiing in Bansko is far better than Pamporovo, the lift system much more modern and well linked, the accomodation is more modern, the prices (out of the tourist traps) are more reasonable, the traditional mehanas are exactly that and not purpose built for the tourists.

Pamporovos plusses are that the ski runs are prettier as they are all below the tree line, the slope restaurants are cosier, it was where I learned to ski, the instructors seem friendlier, and it is a better resort for complete beginners.
Blimey Dave - you are sounding lke a Pamps fan now!
Seriously though, Bansko - as you know - is my 1st love, will go to Boro (nipping to Fraser's (2nd visit) in April - lol - hope the snow holds!) but never done Pamps - will try it there one day as would love to compare/check it out generally - might suit me & Cam's skiing better!
Tanks for your opinion. Must admit quite looking forward to the gondola instead of those awful chair lifts that take forever to get to the top in Pamporovo. It was a bit of a shock the first time we went on it, didn't think it would be so long. Also spent the first 4 days laughing at that single chair lift, about how it would take a miracle to get me on it. Then on the 5th day the queue at the main lift was massive so our instructor took us on it. Even more of a shock to the system, ...

Then on the 5th day the queue at the main lift was massive so our instructor took us on it. Even more of a shock to the system, especially when the girl in front nearly fell off. But at least I realised there was a bar to pull down. One of the friends of a guy in our boarding group was skiing and went on it without realising, went all the way up clinging on for dear life with ski's dangling.
