March will be quieter than now. Your being taken for a ride. Womans downhill finishes before the 3rd of march as that's when the tomba run reopens to the public. I'd threaten legal action.

Balkan holidays has 4 hotels for your dates give them a ring and then tell nielsen to get stuffed. it might be a hotel issue though. I had the same problem in pamps a few years ago and i hav'nt used that hotel again, not even for a beer.

Balkan even have the perun available. I believe this a case of trying to concentrate their programme in borovets. As suggesteed call the perun and check availabilty, then book the appropriate number of rooms directly with the hotel and send the bill to neilsons!!

re: Cancelled holiday to Bansko

I was quite shocked and appalled to read this. I would go ABOLUTELY nuts if this happened to me!!!

Will also say that the Perun is one of my fave hotels having stayed there a couple of times, Bansko is my fave resort and no disrespect to those who favour the Rila and Borovets but to me there is no comparison.

I have just checked the Balkan site - indeed they are available for the Perun on that date so quite what Neilson are up to here I have absolutely no idea.

That said - having ...

That said - having just scrolled up to re-read your post Nick, I did only check for one room - I see you have 3 families so it may be an issue over room availabilty now.

Either way - if you book a hotel that long ago through what I have always thought a reputable company - for them to say at this late stage there are no rooms is absolutely appalling!!! FIGHT IT ALL THE WAY!!

Difficult and upsetting so close to departure date. Not sure how I would handle it. Easy to say book something else up accommodation-wise but it depends on your monetary circumstances. If you can then do it but you will have a battle on your hands with Neilson I suspect.

There is certainly no lack of accommodation in Bansko so if nothing else Neilson should try and find you something else in the resort and then give you compensation!! To announce a different resort is unbelieveable and not acceptable.

I wish you the best of luck - please let us know how you get on. I am in Bansko that week so I hope you get sorted and we may meet you and yours for a bevy.

Hi NIck

Glad to hear they have the availability so are you gonna BLAST Neilson now or what!!!

After you have got this sorted out you may want to consider going independently in future - sounds like you know your way around Bansko etc.

Be interested to hear the outcome of your dealings with Neilson.

Hi Nick.

You should follow advice stated above.

I have not used a package deal for the last 15 odd years I book everything up myself - so flights, tfr, hotel its quite easy to do and is far more flexable than the package deals.

Sometimes its the same price sometimes cheaper. But its well worth it - more fun too.

re: Cancelled holiday to Bansko

Nick - I would also point Nielson directly to this thread and threaten them with the press now! Clearly something seems a tadge shady.

Speak direct to senior people at Neilson.

re: Cancelled holiday to Bansko

Agree with Welshbeef (?) recommend you book independent with cheap flights with Easyjet. Plenty of apartments available, I own a large 3 bedroom apartment myself. Easy to arrange with internet no need for package deals

re: Cancelled holiday to Bansko

So sorry to hear this. Most Tour Operators have an allocation and if they cocked up the booking and their allocation is now full, it is quite often irrelevant how many empty rooms the hotel has. However, they should be bending over backwards for you as this is their error - you should be upgraded in the same resort not moved to a completly different one .Check your insurance, and play merry hell with management at Nielson. It is totally unacceptable! Good Luck
