I wasn't trying to spell 'small'. I was spelling 'schmall'. Oh forget it.
short. icy. steep. narrow.
It would be much better if it wasn't full of schmucks who think they can do it but can't so go down on their edges and scrap it down to ice and dirt.
My advice - go to Borovets and rent a car for a day trip, maybe an overnight. Its a drive but better than spending the whole time there.
Anyway, those "Schmucks" as you call them are probably just folk trying to achieve something. a thrill perhaps; a feeling of fulfillment and the pride of having dealt with a potentially difficult black.
Maybe they do scrape it to the ice, so what?
It makes it more interesting for the skiers and boarders who can ski the ice.

"Schmall," what does that mean, Mat?

I've skied many an icy steep, with bumps and exposed rocks and it wasn't always because of those who went before me. Weather conditions play a part too.
An easy slope can be skied hard and a difficult slope skied easy - it simply depends on what you are trying to achieve and if the less able skiers need to side slip down a black and potentially icy slope - so be it. They are acting responsibly and are not being "schmucks."
Comparisons were asked for, not attacks on the abilities of other piste users.
Great, so you like skiing ice and dirt? Go to Pamporovo, you'll love it. Stay a week. One less sanctimonious ass cluttering the decent slopes in the other resorts.
I've skied plenty of ice in the likes of Hintertux, Zermatt, and other resorts in the past year, probably in the types of resorts you'll never visit because the hills are too big and steep for you. So why do I come to Bulgaria? Because I enjoy the atmosphere and find the folk quite down to earth.
Mat, You go and enjoy yourself on perfect pistes with your no doubt perfect (mincy feet clamped together) style that can't cope with anything steeper and slipperier than an ice cube - or get up ...

Me, I'll deal with whatever a mountain throws at me as I get to it - without pre planning my day around "decent" slopes so I can look good. Mince on.
In that video it takes the guy 3min to ski from the top to the bottom of Pamporovo. Fair enough he's fairly flying along but my question is, is that the whole vertical in Pamporovo. It seems like a really small ski area considering the price companies are trying to sell package holidays there for and the price of a ski pass.
Doesn't take too long to ski from top of the Tux glacier into the valley either and that is a lot of vertical drop. (1500metres) Skiing at the rate and time that Pete ran in his video and most folk would be done in for the rest of the day.
How long would it take the average tourst to descend from the Tower along the same route as PT in his video?
I don't drag ass when i ski nor would i ski as fast as Pete did in that video but i do like to move fairly quickly. At that rate it would take me 5min to ski from the top of Pamporovo to the bottom and on that bombshell its not going to be my ski destination this season.
Never read such utter rubbish in all my life. If you are such a brilliant skier, why have we never seen you in the Olympics, and if Pamporovo is so dreadful, why do tens of thousands of people return there year after year? I have been a skier since 1990 and have skied Austria, France, American, Andorra, Switzerland, and yet I still prefer Bulgaria and in particular Pamporovo.
Wow, as a potential first timer to bulgaria i am complety shocked by such hostility. I came on this site to find some information on borovets and pamporovo. I am organising a ski holiday for a group of 12 people and you can rest assured we, or any of our acquaintances will not be visiting this resort in the future. I have been looking at package holiday prices and pamporovo is as expensive or more expensive than some alps holidays. I was trying to get some information on the resort and your ...

I have been looking at package holiday prices and pamporovo is as expensive or more expensive than some alps holidays. I was trying to get some information on the resort and your video gave an excelent angle on what the slopes look like, something piste maps lack. However your attitude has left a sour taste in my mouth and a bit more research on this site has allowed me to see you are a site administrator, well don't give up your day job as you've just turned off 12 people directly spending money in this place and who knows how many more indirectly. a nerve.
