re: Compliants(?)

Hi Peter, my friends are going there at the start of Feb...I have read the previous messages (as I'm thinking of tagging along) You have answered for all of the complaints which did seem unresonable anyway. I was just wondering if you could please give an idea as to how long you are on the shuttle bus to get to and from the slopes each day? Also, are there good snowboard lessons...as all my friends ski but I don't and I'm not yet a confident snowboarder (more of a beginner). Thanks for your ...

Join your friends

Hi Roxy,

I am delighted that you are thinking of joining your friends at our chalets in February. The distance to from Goverdartsi to Borovets is 12km and the journey should normally talk about 30 minutes via a free shuttle mini bus. This does vary if there have been heavy snowfalls as we are situated above the village at the foot of the mountains. If the minibus is unable to reach the chalets directly we will transfer you to a 4x4 for the last 800 meters of the journey.

Snowboarding lessons are booked separately, the feedback we have had so far has been good, the instructors speak good English and are friendly. This forum generally speaks well of the instructors. They do have a habit of tagging along in the evening and expect you to buy them a drink.
If you are at a basic level on the snowboard you could also use the local slope that is only 300 meters away from the chalets. The nursery slope is ideal but the main slope is a bit unforgiving with a steep draglift straight up the mountain.
Hope you can join your friends, as you will find our chalets as you will find our chalets warm, welcoming and cosy.
Skiing should carry a health warning – it’s very addictive. Wink

re: Compliants(?)

Myself, my husband and six of our friends, have just returned from a week's ski-ing holiday staying in Hotel Iskar Chalet in the village of Goverdartsi and we can't recommend it enough.

Yes the comments about needing a 4x4 jeep to get up the last bit of the hill are true, because of the exceptionally heavy snow in January, but it's hardly a problem getting out of one vehicle and into another - how else are they going to drive up a mountain through snow that deep? Yes the comments about needing a 4x4 jeep to get up the last bit of the hill are true, because of the exceptionally heavy snow in January, but it's hardly a problem getting out of one vehicle and into another - how else are they going to drive up a mountain through snow that deep? If you can't be arsed getting off a minibus and into a jeep twice a day, Anthony, I fail to understand how you can muster the energy to go on a ski-ing holiday in the first place.

Joan is the lady who looked after us for the week and as well as being an excellent cook she was welcoming, informative and extremely helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent - warming, home cooked three course dinners every night, the bar was well stocked and very cheap, the open fire was always roaring and the whole place was spotless.

We had a night out in Borovets and caught taxis back to the chalets with no problems, and the fare was very reasonable. We will definitely be going back there and have already recommended the place to our friends and colleagues.

I was part of the group along with Victoria (last post) and can vouch for what she said entirely. I was surprised to read the criticism above at first, but reading the full story I'm thinking 'dodgy pete/Anthony' may be one of those jester-hat-wearing types you get the urge to ski into, hard. Sounds like he should have gone and had a C-razy time somewhere a little tackier.

Anyway, all I can say is we had a fantastic week last week. The chalets were lovely: clean, warm (and it was COLD outside) in beautiful hillside surroundings. The 3 course meals with wine were all v good and breakfasts likewise. We had a good laugh in front of the fire in the evenings ( karaoke was a bit painful mind) and helped ourselves to drink from the bar, which we settled at the end of the week. We were allowed to stay up as late as we wanted and play our music- o yeah, maybe that was because we didn't wreck the place....

Obviously its not as handy as staying in Borovets vis a vis the skiing, but seeing the accomodation there, I would definitely stay again at Iskar if I was back- imagine getting stuck in a hotel beside a load of snowboarders like our aforementioned friend.....

Probably my most lasting memory was taking the horse and cart up the track to the chalets. I would recommend it, but maybe not in minus 15 degrees. I think some of my fingers dropped off there. If you see any get in touch.

Excellent value for money and highly reccommended, five stars: Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
