been extremely difficult getting Levs in the Uk, i'm gonna be using dollars over there as had loads left. hoping i'll get no problems from thisre: Exchange rate
we took levs in and out of the country, didnt get asked. got money fine from co op before we went, think someo banks cant be bothered getting small amounts in for people.we spent sterling without a problem, even got the same rate the bank gave that day.
hotel gave 2.5 lev bank gave 2.79 on the same day so it might be worth checking before you change any money over there.

Lev is a restricted currency so you have got no chance of getting any in Britian!!I would hope to get nearly 3 lev to the pound although in the resort this is unlikely!

That is simply not true!!Both Bulgarian Lev and Romanian Le are RESTRICTED currency - the economy is still fragile in these countries and their ecnomy suffers if too much is taken out of circulation.
Also, it allows the Bulgarians to over value the Lev as they are not competing with Western banks and there exhange rates.
Take my advice and stick to Pounds!!

not sure of the exchange rate but there's usually a person at your hotel or villas who will exchange your money at a better rate than at the airports or banks..... you just have to ignore the fact that theyre wearing a pair of sawn handcuffs, and hand you your money in a roll of consecutive notes!re: Exchange rate
if you are taking english money always make sure that the notes are not torn and have no writing on them we had teroble last year trting to change ripped notes into levs they just did not want to knowre: Exchange rate

It is illegal to take levs out of Bulgaria, the limit of money of any kind is the changed wort of 5000 lev, free of declaration. They sometimes ask for money or check the baggage. The offical changing rate today is 2,77383 lev for 1 pound; 1,95583 lev for 1 euro. Don't take dollars with you, because the Lev is fixed at the euro and you see the dollar loose a lot of worth in the last time and if it will loose some more, you will loose to.

The only possiblities to chnage money are the offices in the hotels and the banks and only these there is written in big letters bank not changing office or something like this.
