Food Glorious Food

Please could somebody explain why, when the Hotels in the Bulgarian ski resorts cater mainly for the British they are not capable of providing food that is pleasing to at least 50% of the guests.

I personally feel that when you book your package be it cheap or not that the food that is provided should be satisfactory. It is clear from my experience and from the comments that we read on this board that it is not.

When the restaurants outside of the Hotels are so well praised by the majority for food and price it proves that the Bulgarians are more than able to please our fussy nations.

Why can the hotels not provide the same service?

re: Food Glorious Food

Maybe they're just trying to stay Bulgarian! I wouldn't go to Thailand and expect spaghetti bolognaise (as an example) in the hotels, even if I could get it elsewhere in the resort.

re: Food Glorious Food

Maybe Elaine but such things as cold fried eggs as an attempt at an English breakfast is just a joke.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed some of the Bulgarian salads etc. but they always have a huge variety of food that most people don't like anything of.

By the way if Thai food was served in the Hotels in Bulgaria all the time I don't think that there would be too many complaints. It's all about giving the customer what the customer wants and the majority of the customers dislike the food ...

Hi Dave..
Have to appreciate your comment regarding cold food, a trait of buffet style dinners
and unfortunatley unavoidable unless all food is placed on or in a heater. My experience in Bansko before Christmas staying in the Tanne was superb, all food piping hot and of reasonable to good quality, granted it was quite quiet but the staff seemed prepared to work hard to please so i imagine there would be no problem as it got busier..

Am off on the 19th again to Bansko this time staying at the Peran, will see what happens then !!!
I know some of the hotels need to smarten up their act, people will vote with their feet as new hotels become available, the older ones will have to react to survive..

Only my thoughts

Cheers Booze

So my friends,

I'm a real lover of bulgarian food and this mean bulgarian food not the most things you speak here about the Steaks of the Katys, the chinese or tandori cuisine.
And it is not easy to cook a large number of meals, if you doesn't know how many from every dish you need. In the samll restaurants you sell everything so often is not a big problem, but in a hotel as the Ela or the Moura with the facilities in the kitchen and the number of chiefs it is real different to cater ...

And a big problem in the winter is that vegetables and lettuce is real expensive.

So it is not easy to do anything for guest and all in all for guest from the UK, because you have real different kind of eating and cooking.

Don't forget the most of the bulgarian don't eat breakfast, they buy a Banitza and a coffee thats it.

Cater mainly for the British???

The most popular breakfast in the UK is bacon and eggs...... yet you will struggle to get bacon in any hotel in Bulgaria.

Nor do we tend to eat cheese or ham for breakfast, yet is is served everywhere. Ask for a ham sandwich and it will almost always come with cheese.

There are usually 5 or 6 choices in the Morgavets for dinner. Pork, Chicken, and Fish are on almost every night. I would have thought these 3 choices were eaten in almost every civilised ...

We found the food to be fine. The reason we ate elsewhere on several occasions was purely to dine with guests from other hotels and not because of the standard of the meals.

The things that did disappoint me this year were the lack of importance placed on clearing tables, and the slowness of topping up the food when it had all gone.

Oh no, not the Bulgarian Food debate again lol.

I have to say that while I can understand that why people grumble about the temperature of food, or if the food is badly prepared. If that is what you are complaining about then I am with you Dave, although a Bulgarian told me last year that they think it unhealthy to serve food so hot that it can burn your mouth or tongue.

But I cannot understand why the British cannot open their minds to foreign food on holiday. After all our favourite food at home is of Indian (curry), American (Burger & Fries), Greek (Kebab), German(sausage), Italian (Pizza, pasta, lasagne) in origin, so why the hell can't we adapt to what they serve when we leave Britain? In my own opinion, I think that the great thing about travelling is to give yourself new experiences. I have stayed in two hotels in Bulgaria, and have enjoyed most of the food there. Maybe its because I do enjoy most food, and am not a fussy eater, maybe I've been lucky!
