the service and state of the food must have picked up since Jan, as I NEVER experienced a cold meal, and I wasn't stood there waiting for them to bring out the food, we mainly ate at 7.00p.m. each night after a nice dip in the pool, and breakfast was usually between 8.45 - 9.30 depending on the night before, we often did have to queue for a table for breakfast, but again didn't have a problem with anything being cold far from it.

We were in the restaurant by the pool, not the Rila one on the first floor, I wonder if there is a difference in service, I know the food is exactly the same as we had friends upstairs - but I didn't hear them complaining.
I would not consider myself to be a fussy eater at all. I think the main issue here is with the temperature of the food not the food itself. While some things taste good cold others do not. It also seems that the Bulgarian hotels try to attempt to reproduce the food we like to eat but haven't got the grasp of the temperature bit. As for their rules and eating habits that I should adhere to I noticed you didn't say how tasty the dog was that you saw being cooked !!!

Steve C,
I agree about the heaters and voting with feet.
Mike ,
I have tried nearly all of the food and like I said I am not a fussy eater but like it warm.
Sune,
They don't have bacon like ours in Bulgaria nor do they have it in German shops. I used to be the most popular Brit in Germany when I arrived back with my rashers of fresh bacon.
PP,
One of the reasons I booked the Mourgavets last time was due to your high recommendations especially when you regarded it to be better than the Pamporovo,I was surprised and somewhat shocked to read your report after your return. When I arrived there I thought that you must have been in an other hotel because I was very impressed with the hotel and saw no relation to your report especially to the coments on the restaurant service. Maybe because you are a regular they had taken note of your comments !
I ate in the hotel restaurant for the first 2 nights and enjoyed the food but after the 3rd night decided to try the restaurants that other people had recommended on this site. I ate Bulgarian food in these restaurants and really really enjoyed it. Maybe because it was warm.
I have just booked for the Mourgavets again because I was so impressed, the only difference this time is I will be eating out most nights and avoiding the eggs in the mornings !
Ben and Kel thanx for your comments at least 2 people agree with me. I thought I was being ridiculous for a minute or 2.
Graham,
On our last day I went for breakfast at 0600 hrs the hotel were good enough to provide us with this special service before we left for the UK. The fried eggs were stone cold even though we entered the restaurant 2 minutes after it opened. If I had let it stand it would only have got warmer. It's not about money Graham I think you have missed the point.
Jacqi 1,
I think you have found the secret of the Rila dinners, to get there early. I did this at the Mourgavets but it didn't work. I have never stayed at the Rila but have read so many different reports about the food. See Kels comments above.
I think you should all eat cold fried eggs on Sunday morning while I eat my humble pie for daring to mention the food.
So sorry Dave, I'm only a folish german chef and know we can buy all, absolutly all in germany, from bacon to malt vinegar for fish and chips.
Tanjette nice posting, but need my coffee fresh grinded and cook in a bulgarian dscheswe.

And if you have a real bulgarian dinner with friends you know, they are two ways on the one hand the macho way, the wife stood in the kitchen and the master of the house and his guest/s got a great time, fine that this is away, one of the own things what is possitive in Socialism and former socialsim countries. The other way the food is ready and warmed in a microwave oven fine and modern.
Because you know start of a fine evening with bulgarian friends is a long way with a lot of homemade rakia and salad or Mesè, and then came the main course and the wine, and later the wine and some more and the wine and some drink for the way home.... a lot later the last drink and the knowledge of a fantastic evening....

I reckon you have been bashing the Rakia already. German chef or not there is no proper bacon in Germany apart from in the Naafi. You think you have bacon but it is not bacon as we know it. Your Speck is not a Fleck on ours.

okay if you will be sure. No stress about, but why not bulgarian cuisine it is good, healthy, with a lot fat and vegetables, all the british one is too, but not so many different things, so what is real british cuisine exclusive Ham and eggs, fish and chips, turkey and yorkshire pudding????
