French Alps ski costs

I was in Les Gets / Morzine from Boxing Day to 2nd jan 2012. It is not the most expensive French ski area & maybe not the cheapest, but this is what it cost. We have been package before & stayed in nice Chalets & Farmhouses but this time we wanted an Apartment. (I was paying for 6 of us, including my own 3 kids & daughters boyfriend):
Flights = £1300
Car hire inc fuel & snowchains = £750
Apartment = £1000
Lift passes = £1200
Ski hire (we took some & hired some) = £370
eat out lunchtime ...

eat out lunchtime = £500
eat out & drink evenings = £1050

Total just shy of £6500 including sundries such as linen hire, car park etc.

The evening eat out cost is slightly skewed by New Years Eve which cost almost £300, but was a great night.

Just thought you might like to know!

Glad you had a nice time but seriously - OUCH! We will be doing Boro in March for around £2200... and that's for a family of five on a B&B basis, eating out on slopes and in the evening. That's flights, transfers, ski hire, passes, lessons for the kids, some private guiding and something like skidooing or horse riding. It also includes valet parking at Gatwick from a company that charge less than the long stay.

Not bad price roughly 1,100 pounds/person/week over Christmas New Year period.

Hope you thought it was value for money, but given it was from Boxing day to Jan 2nd it was a special event + price hike for school holidays etc.

It was a practice OUCH!
We always go at peak times. The next opportunity is February half term when we're hoping to go to Courchevel. Not booked yet but it will be 6 of us again.
That could be a real OUCH, but this is the last time I'm paying the whole lot. The kids have been warned they pay their own Lift passes & ski hire from then on (guess they won't come with me & Mrs N. once they have to pay towards it themselves). Could be the end of an era - no more family skiing holidays all ...

Just me & Mrs. N. in future? It doesn't bear thinking about

Nudge, if you fancy going across the big pond check out Canadianaffair heading for Canada. I got conned into taking my lot in the half term there was no difference in prices for the half term period, and Bannf area was skiing fantastic.
Enjoy where ever you go. Booze

re: French Alps ski costs

Thanks S.P. I'll take a look at that for the future.

At the moment we're very much on a France agenda. My eldest daughter is living in Paris as part of her University studies & she needs to be immersed in all things French. It helps the travel plans for us to all meet up in France.

But you're right I do fancy Banff area, never been before & will look into it.

Cheers Booze

I envy you being able to afford to go to France several times - one day we'll be there! I'd love Canada but it's still too much money for us - budget skiing in Boro for the next year or two!

At least we are going skiing!

Would it be rude of me to ask what you do for a living? I'm guessing owner of a large diamond mine in South Africa, or perhaps you invented the iPod?

Nudger, Courchevel !!!!!! you are going to get bitchslapped, or your wallet will, especially if you pick one of the higher villages..
Go on though, visitor numbers are way down and there are some deals turning up, and they have massive snow at the moment, so no problems even down low in 1650 (a better bet anyway, the original hamlet of Courchevel)...
Who runs your diamond mine when you are away ???
